Compatibility overview
There is a strange, often wonderful mystery about the connection between firstwest and secondwest. Yet there can be a magical quality to the energy here, which is ultimately capable of yielding a close and inspiring bond.

Five steps apart around the Western zodiac wheel, Sagittarius and Taurus share a Quincunx (or inconjunct) aspect. This is said to be a minor influence, one of only two (with the Semi-Sextile), which means the surrounding atmosphere offers both an exciting freedom from constraints, and a sometimes disconcerting lack of direction.
The more confusing side of this combination is amplified by the respective elements. Sagittarius is a Fire sign, typically dynamic, idealistic, and impactful, whereas Earth sign Taurus tends to be far steadier and more consistent in outlook. Sagittarius will often feel as if they need to light a bomb under Taurus before Taurus can be coerced into action. Taurus, meanwhile, may experience a kind of vertigo at the intensity and suddenness of Sagittarius' demands. Sagittarius' natural inclination towards the philosophical usually leads them to prioritize beyond-human concerns and the "big picture", rather than individual feelings and sensitivities. Taurus may be one of the most stubborn of all the signs, but they are deeply caring and invest heavily in the security of their loved ones. Hence Sagittarius may feel as if Taurus is weighed down by emotional responsibility, while Taurus can find Sagittarius lofty, unrealistic, or uncaring.
The beauty of these signs' shared Quincunx energy, however, is that their stark differences frequently do not appear too serious. In fact, the attraction between these opposites can be especially flirtatious, intriguing, and exciting. The practical and productive Fixed energy of Taurus knits beautifully with the more reflective Mutable energy of Sagittarius. Physical attraction may be powerfully strong, but creative and intellectual stimulation is equally likely. Grounded by Taurus' sensibleness and physicality, Sagittarius may find themselves more confident, accessible, and better at taking care of themselves. Sagittarius, meanwhile, can inspire Taurus to get out of a rut, and can tap into Taurus' often-overlooked aesthetic side, provoking Taurus into fulfilling abstract reflection and expression.
Given the differences here, substantial independence, at least from time to time, is more or less essential. Problems must be addressed head-on, too, as Quincunx energy tends to atrophy if tensions are not worked through. Overall, though, with sufficient tenderness and understanding, there are some truly magical prospects here, capable of producing lifelong rewards.

Dwayne Johnson (5/2/1972, Taurus Rat), Dany Garcia (11/29/1968, Sagittarius Monkey) : The actor/wrestler/businessman Johnson and businesswoman/bodybuilder Garcia were married from 1997 to 2008. They continue to have a high-profile business relationship, including buying The XFL together in 2020. Garcia said in 2008, "Some people go through separation and there's no conversation, and it's a dark time, and one person goes off, but that was never us. We went on this journey together. We were going to change the manner of the relationship together. We spoke every day, and multiple times a day—not only on business, but on what was happening personally."
Kelly Clarkson (4/24/1982, Taurus Dog), Brandon Blackstock (12/16/1976, Sagittarius Dragon) : The singer-songwriter Clarkson and talent manager Blackstock were married from 2013 to 2021, during which time Blackstock was also Clarkson's manager. They had two children together. In 2019, Clarkson said, "We both love getting out in nature, we love the country and we are not really city people. It is nice to go out and have your kids do stuff outside and in nature. So that is what we will be doing the whole time. You won’t find me. I will be lost in a ranch!"
Al Pacino (4/25/1940, Taurus Dragon), Ellen Burstyn (12/7/1932, Sagittarius Monkey) : The two actors are longtime friends, who since 2000 have been co-presidents of the Actors Studio, a prestigious drama school in New York City. In a 2019 interview, Burstyn described: "Isn’t [Pacino] something? I’ve known him so many years. He’s just such an original being. [When Burstyn interviewed Pacino for the talk show, Inside the Actors Studio (1994-present),] I would ask a question and Al would go off, and the story would go all the way around and around and I’d think, God, where is he going with this? But he always comes back."
Pierce Brosnan (5/16/1953, Taurus Snake), Cassandra Harris (12/15/1948, Sagittarius Rat) : The two actors were married from 1980 until Harris' death in 1991 from cancer. They had three children (two adopted by Brosnan from Harris' previous marriage). Months after Harris died—referencing his performance in the successful film, The Lawnmower Man (1992)—Brosnan described: "I told [Harris], ‘Well, darling, I know you’re up there moving the pieces around.’ I did [the film] because Cassie said it would be good to do. She has made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am. She’s forever embedded in every fiber of my being. She’s there with me every day. I was so blessed to have met someone like that...There is an incredible cruelty in it all, losing a person you shared everything with. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever experienced bereavement, and it’s overwhelming."
George Clooney (5/6/1961, Taurus Ox), Brad Pitt (12/18/1963, Sagittarius Rabbit) : The two actors have shared a high-profile "bromance" for decades. They have starred together in films including, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), Burn After Reading (2008), and the Ocean's Eleven film series (2001, 2004, and 2007)—a new collaboration, Wolfs, is in production. They are known for their playful pranks—in 2016, Clooney described: "I got a bumper sticker in the shape of a pot plant, that said, ‘F— cops,’ and I put that on the back of [Pitt's] car. Because there’s no way you’re not getting arrested with that. But I am working on a prank that will end his career. If you take the time, if you’re willing to sit on one for a couple of years, and just plant the seed ...there’s no rush." In 2022, asked to name handsome movie stars, Pitt said, "If I was gonna name someone present, well I gotta name that George Clooney f— because why not? Because usually, I'm always taking him out, and he's always taking me out. And this time, I'm gonna go the other way, just this once."
Meek Mill (5/6/1987, Taurus Rabbit), Jay-Z (12/4/1969, Sagittarius Rooster) : The two hip-hop artists share a supportive and collaborative relationship. They are co-founders of REFORM Alliance, an organization devoted to probation, parole, and sentencing reform in the US. In 2017, Jay-Z wrote an opinion for The New York Times, entitled, "The Criminal Justice System Stalks Black People Like Meek Mill". After Meek Mill left Jay-Z's entertainment company, Roc Nation, in 2022, Jay-Z rapped, "Me and Meek could never beef, I freed that n— from a whole bid." Meek Mill published a statement saying, "roc nation is my family...[Jay-Z's nickname] Hov saved my life b4...I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good."
Channing Tatum (4/26/1980, Taurus Monkey), Jenna Dewan (12/3/1980, Sagittarius Monkey) : The two actors were married from 2009 to 2019 and had one child together. The statement announcing their break-up included: "We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Compatibility overview
Fair warning, Chinese astrology is known to take no prisoners when it comes to combinations believed to attract challenging energy. The match between firsteast and secondeast is famously oppositional, a clash between refinement and flamboyance that can produce all manner of tensions. It's not all bad news for this pair, however. Under the right conditions, struggles can yield important benefits for this original "odd couple".

The match between Rabbit and Rooster is one of the six notorious Opposite combinations, where signs are directly opposed across the Chinese zodiac wheel. These pairings are classically associated with jarring confrontation and enduring instability.
In this case, the celebrated bravado and perseverance of the Rooster runs headlong into the Rabbit's uniquely sensitive refinement. The poor Rabbit, easily over-awed by the Rooster's in-your-face attitude, may feel endlessly wounded by apparent slights or heartlessness, causing them to run for cover at every available opportunity. The Rooster, meanwhile, is likely to feel as if they have to constantly walk on eggshells due to what they perceive as the Rabbit being thin-skinned and precious. Hence this combination can easily aggravate the weaknesses of both signs. Direct or indirect confrontations may lead to the Rooster becoming increasingly self-absorbed and brash, while the Rabbit sinks ever deeper into bouts of isolation or maudlin depression.
With Opposite matches in the Chinese zodiac, however, there is always an upside. In any joint venture, each of these two oppositional signs supplies an abundance of energy in precisely the area where the other is most lacking. Thus, if the Rabbit's aesthetic values can be channelled alongside the Rooster's enterprising spirit, there may be potentially fantastic prospects for success. Any kind of collaboration, association, even public conflict, is capable of attracting wild levels of attention. Sometimes, these two can be so different in their instincts they may tend to be dismissive of one another's successes.
With positive energy on the Western side, or highly-evolved self-knowledge, these two signs can come together in spite of everything to achieve other-worldly triumphs.

Quentin Tarantino (3/27/1963, Aries Rabbit), Spike Lee (3/20/1957, Pisces Rooster) : A feud between the two celebrated film-makers reportedly dates back to Tarantino's 1997 film, Jackie Brown, which Lee argued made gratuitous use of the N-word. Following the release of Django Unchained in 2012, Lee tweeted (using characteristic capitalization): "American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them."
Les Paul (6/9/1915, Gemini Rabbit), Leo Fender (8/10/1909, Leo Rooster) : The competition between these famous inventors has been credited with inspiring the most important electric guitars in history, the Gibson Les Paul and Leo Fender's Telecaster and Stratocaster. After having an opportunity to play Fender's new sold body guitar, Les Paul reportedly told an executive at Gibson's parent company, "[I]f you don't do something, Fender will rule the world."
Maria Sharapova (4/19/1987, Aries Rabbit), Serena Williams (9/26/1981, Libra Rooster) : The intense competitiveness between these two famous former world No. 1 tennis players has been described by some as a feud. Reflecting on their on and off court relationship, Sharapova has commented, "Serena and I should be friends; we have the same passion. But we are not. I think, to some extent, we have driven each other. Maybe that’s what it takes. Only when you have that intense antagonism can you find the strength to finish her off. Who knows?"
Saul Bellow (6/10/1915, Gemini Rabbit), Philip Roth (3/19/1933, Pisces Rooster) : These famous writers shared a mutual respect, with the older and more established writer, Bellow, mentoring the younger prodigy, Roth. After Roth's last ever interview, the interviewer Asaf Galay reported that, "[Roth said] he missed arguing with [Bellow] at the table, but that Bellow was not a good friend. He said something like: 'He wouldn’t be the first guy whose companionship I’d seek out in the afterlife'."
Lauryn Hill (5/26/1975, Gemini Rabbit), Wyclef Jean (10/17/1969, Libra Rooster) : The two musicians were members of the band The Fugees and had a tumultuous affair during which both were involved with other people. In his memoir, Purpose: An Immigrant's Story, Jean describes the intense attraction between him and Hill as well as a relationship that was toxic. He writes: "You can hear the tension in the music, all of that impossible love...It was like we knew it wasn’t going to work from the start, but we couldn’t shy away...The way we related we couldn’t sustain because it was this whirlwind of creativity, this success, this performance."
50 Cent (7/6/1975, Cancer Rabbit), Jay-Z (12/4/1969, Sagittarius Rooster) : These two famous rappers have known each other for many years and were involved in a famous beef in 2009. 50 Cent has since described their relationship as strictly "business": "We are in the same business. We are not necessarily friends. We don’t call each other for no reason. It’s not like we have something against each other to make us enemies. Me and Jay will use each other. Repeatedly. For energy."

Final Words
The Quincunx aspect between firstwest and secondwest is one of the Western zodiac’s most puzzling yet impressive influences, often spinning apparently irreconcilable differences into creative fulfillment and emotional security. The best qualities of this energy may be indispensable here, as the confrontational firsteast and secondeast match provides little calm or reassurance, instead driving both parties impatiently towards attention and success.
