About Horizon Astrology

The Nobel prize-winning author, Toni Morrison, famously once said, “[I]f there’s a book that you want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”

Horizon Astrology is the web resource that hadn’t been created that we wanted to be able to read and use. So we created it.

Horizon Astrology was created for a number of reasons. Whilst there are fantastic astrology websites online, we couldn’t find a resource that meaningfully considered the dual influences of both Western astrological influences (day/month of birth) on relationship dynamics, and the influence of the year of birth as drawn from centuries old learnings and teaching from Chinese astrology. So we created one.

We also couldn’t find an exhaustive resource that applied these combined Western astrology and Chinese zodiac influences to real life examples of all types of relationships. So that’s also what we have done. 

The site includes around a thousand real life examples of high-profile relationships, to show how both the Western and Chinese zodiacs offer insights into real-life relationships. We draw on (and link to) publicly available statements from high profile figures that offer insight into the intimate dynamics of celebrity relationships in all their forms, be they siblings, parent-child relationships, lovers, long-term partners, collaborators, co-stars, friends and or political enemies or allies. These examples offer invaluable perspectives into how Chinese and Western zodiacs (separately and in combination) can help us to understand our different compatibilities and energy matches, including how they manifest in our relationships, and in our fortune, and as we navigate the messy complexities of our daily lives. 

The unique perspective offered by combining Chinese and Western influences offers a key to self-awareness and personal growth—knowledge and understandings that can equip us to maximise our own potential and all the relationships in our lives, and help us to navigate our insecurities, and the opportunities and challenges different energies present and that we all inevitably face. To whatever degree you believe in or subscribe to astrology as a guiding philosophy in your life, Horizon Astrology offers a playful, entertaining, interactive and meaningful guide and experience that will help you to better understand the different relationships in your lives and that you can see around you. 

Like any resource, our site has limitations. The site is in English, and draws from mostly Western popular culture. This means that it doesn’t represent most of the humans, cultures or communities on the planet. For example, as our matches are drawn from existing media and publicly available celebrity data, we are limited by biases in trends in media reporting (for example, that privilege western white heterosexual relationships over friendships between non-white people). Given these limitations, we have nonetheless endeavored to represent as much diversity as possible, including with respect to diverse sexualities, gender identities, life experiences, and cultural backgrounds. 

All celebrity birthdates are drawn from data from Wikidata/Wikipedia. Whilst every effort has been taken to cross-check these from available sources, any errors of celebrity birthdates are most likely due to errors in Wiki-entries. 

The use of animal symbols to denote human character traits—which has been at the heart of the Chinese zodiac for millennia—is inherently problematic in today's world, primarily due to historical uses of animals over time to pejoratively characterize people, in particular due to factors such as their age, gender, sexuality, race, and/or cultural background. In adopting the iconography of the Western and Chinese zodiacs on this site, we vehemently reject any negative characterization or conflation with flawed or celebrated human traits and only use such symbols to describe astrological influences as they have been created and applied in the Chinese zodiac and in Western astrology for over 2000 years.
