Angelou was famously prompted to begin work on her acclaimed memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by her publisher telling her an autobiography could not be serious literature. She later described: "I said, ‘Well, hmmm, maybe I’ll try it.’ The truth is that [my publisher] had talked to James Baldwin, my brother friend, and Jimmy told him that ‘if you want Maya Angelou to do something, tell her she can’t do it.’" After the memoir's publication, Baldwin said: "This testimony from a Black sister marks the beginning of a new era in the minds and hearts and lives of all Black men and women."

Martin Short (3/26/1950, Aries Tiger), Steve Martin (8/14/1945, Leo Rooster) : The two actors have collaborated multiple times, from the film Three Amigos (1986) to the TV series Only Murders in the Building (2021-). Short has described: "You know, you make movies and you’re in each other’s lives for a few months, in Yugoslavia or wherever, and then you never see each other again. But Steve and I made each other laugh, and we’re clowns, so that’s a big seductive element. John Stockton (3/26/1962, Aries Tiger), Karl Malone (7/24/1963, Leo Rabbit) : The two basketball stars formed one of the most successful duos in NBA history, sharing an 18-year playoff streak with the Utah Jazz and achieving a combined 24 All-Star appearances. Stockton described in 2022: "I felt there was something magical. [Malone] read my mind. He caught everything. He finished everything. He had all my work ethic and then some. He loved the game. Just one thing after another. During the Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan, Markle spoke about a senior aide to William who gave unfavourable evidence in a lawsuit she brought against an English tabloid. "It's your brother," Markle said to Harry on screen. "Not gonna say anything about your brother, but it's so obvious."

Quincy Jones (3/14/1933, Pisces Rooster), Michael Jackson (8/29/1958, Virgo Dog) : The producer and musician collaborated on the celebrated albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Since Jackson's death, Jones has been outspoken in his criticisms of the "King of Pop", saying, "Michael stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs...The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come. Greedy, man. Greedy."

Priscilla Presley (5/24/1945, Gemini Rooster), Elvis Presley (1/8/1935, Capricorn Dog) : The musician dubbed "The King of Rock and Roll" and the actor/businesswoman met when Priscilla was 14. They later had a famously troubled marriage. Both reportedly had multiple affairs. Priscilla described how Elvis stopped being attracted to her after their daughter was born, as he "had a hard time dealing with me being a mother and the little girl that I was to him", and referred to herself as "Elvis’ living doll, to fashion as he pleased."

Errol Flynn (6/20/1909, Gemini Rooster), David Niven (3/1/1910, Pisces Dog) : The two actors from Hollywood's golden age were frequent co-stars and lived together for a time. Niven's memoirs included seriously unflattering descriptions of Flynn. "The great thing about Errol," Niven wrote, "was you always knew exactly where you stood with him because he always let you down."

Minnie Driver (1/31/1970, Aquarius Rooster), Matt Damon (10/8/1970, Libra Dog) : The two actors were a high-profile celebrity couple after they began dating while co-starring in Good Will Hunting. Driver has claimed that Damon effectively broke up with her by announcing on Oprah that he was single: "It seemed like a good forum for him to announce to the world that we were no longer together, which I found fantastically inappropriate. Of course, he was busy declaring his love for me on David Letterman a month previously."
