Traditionally, astrologers saw firstwest and secondwest as strangers with next to nothing in common. In practice, however, the ambiguity of this combination can be surprisingly delightful, and these two are capable of powerful creative synergies and lasting intimacy.

The interval of five steps around the Western zodiac wheel, as there are between Libra and Pisces, is known as a Quincunx (or inconjunct) aspect. In classical astrology, this 150° angle had quite a poor reputation. It was thought that the two signs were too different, too fundamentally out of alignment, to enjoy a meaningfully positive connection.
Admittedly, the respective elements are not well suited. Libra's Air energy is irrepressibly intellectual, whereas Pisces is the most emotionally sensitive and variable of all the signs. Libra's enthusiasm for brainstorming from all angles can thus often strike Pisces as at once exhausting and superficial. Pisces' deep feelings and moodiness, on the other hand, may weigh down Libra's instinctive excitability. Libra may crave some headspace that is less sombre or changeable.
The beauty of the Quincunx connection, however—and the reason the Libra/Pisces match is too often underestimated—is that the tension here is rarely antagonistic. In fact, for both signs, the inevitable misunderstandings or contrasting instincts between them can often seem pleasantly intriguing. Perplexed but amiable banter is par for the course. Affection, physical or otherwise, flows gently and easily. Libra's Cardinal modality, with its always-beginning purity and excitement, gels superbly with Pisces' end-and-beyond, contemplative Mutable energy. Therefore, while collaboration between these two may need plenty of separation to cater to their essential differences, the prospects for ultimate success are actually considerable. Creative projects that blend the contrasting qualities Libra and Pisces bring can be especially impressive and rewarding. Intimate or family collaborations, too, can harness the pair's disparate energy into remarkably effective unions. Importantly, the Quincunx energy between Libra and Pisces can tthough be far less resistant to headwinds than other relationships. Therefore it is important for problems to be worked out quickly.
With requisite individual space and effective dispute resolution this contrary pairing can defy expectations and succeed astonishingly well in a wide range of contexts.

Michael Douglas (9/25/1944, Libra Monkey), Sharon Stone (3/10/1958, Pisces Dog) : I found that as I began dipping my toe into Kamala’s world, it brought us even closer together. I realized how much of yourself you leave on the trail, how much these stories weigh on you, and—though I couldn’t imagine it possible before this—I grew to understand and admire who she is and what she’s been able to accomplish even more. She had such a tremendous weight on her shoulders, and we were in a fight for the soul of this nation—together.
Dorothea Hurley (9/29/1962, Libra Tiger), Jon Bon Jovi (3/2/1962, Pisces Tiger) : The musician/founding member of Bon Jovi and his partner met at high school. They have been together for over 40 years and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in 2019. They have four children together. Bon Jovi has described: "[Our secret is] [m]utual respect. Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out...[W]e enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do."
Tim Robbins (10/16/1958, Libra Dog), Robert Altman (2/20/1925, Pisces Ox) : The actor and actor/director collaborated on multiple occasions, including on the films The Player, Short Cuts, and Ready to Wear. In 1997, Altman expressed his admiration for Robbins, saying: "If an actor doesn't surprise me, I don't work with him again. They've got to show me something I could never think up myself. But what really amazed me was Tim's restraint as a director in Dead Man Walking. A lot of guys are facile at showing off. But he hid. To do that, you have to have your ego in the right place. I can't do that. It was masterful."
Gwyneth Paltrow (9/27/1972, Libra Rat), Daniel Craig (3/2/1968, Pisces Monkey) : The two actors have been friends since co-starring together in Sylvia (2003). Paltrow recently admitted to being somewhat overawed by Craig: "If you’re friends with someone before they become James Bond, and then they become James Bond and you’re nervous to see them at a party because they are now James Bond, is that weird?"
Mary Beth Hurt (9/26/1946, Libra Dog), Glenn Close (3/19/1947, Pisces Pig) : The two actors have been close friends since the 1970s. Close described: "I remember one time we were in an actor bar, and I think a famous tennis player came up and [Hurt] literally said, 'Shoo! Shoo! Go away.' She’s very funny, very smart, and I always felt a little like I didn’t quite measure up. Because I didn’t think I could be that kind of witty-funny. But I remember deciding that I’d much rather have Mary Beth as my friend than to try to be the wit of the party. And we’ve had this extraordinary friendship our whole careers."
Tom Petty (10/20/1950, Libra Tiger), George Harrison (2/25/1943, Pisces Sheep) : The two celebrated musicians became friends when they collaborated as part of The Travelling Wilburys. Petty described: "The Hindus think that when you meet someone and you feel really close to them immediately, that maybe you knew them in a past life. And that was how it was with George. We instantly became very close. And I remember him saying to me, 'You know I’m not going to let you out of my life now.' We really got along well, and shared a sense of humor. And we became very close friends."

Compatibility overview
Like herding Tigers! A match between two natives of this regal sign is likely to be every bit as highly-charged as it sounds. While the overall atmosphere is potentially very positive, with an abundance of like-mindedness and mutual respect, these two will need lots of independent space to accommodate each other successfully.

Just as with shared elements in the Western zodiac, own-sign matches in Chinese astrology necessarily involve two signs in the same Trine Family. When the Tiger—who belongs in the same family as the Dog and Horse—encounters another Tiger, the underlying energy is thus deeply compatible.
Two Tiger natives share qualities that are essential to their being, such as powerful self-belief, commitment to noble and righteous causes, and a determination to succeed without ethical compromise. Early conversations are likely to prove especially inspiring. These two may, literally and figuratively, fall over themselves in their enthusiasm to share and develop their opinions. Sexual experiences are typically full of fireworks, but any interaction is likely to have a similar brand of high intensity, heated agreement.
It must be said that all this energy—even if, for the most part, apparently positive—can prove somewhat exhausting. Other compatible signs can provide the Tiger with steadying, calming influences. A pair of Tigers, however, are more apt to keep riling each other up past the point where their frenetic activity and enthusiasm is good for them. Blow-ups and confrontations of one kind or another would not be a surprise. Arguments may prove especially deflating, if both Tigers are equally convinced they have arrived at the most honourable course of action, yet there is no prospect of them seeing eye to eye.
Happily, the nature of the Tiger is such that they can be relied on to right themselves quickly. The answer for successful Tiger/Tiger relationships is thus often to carve out a good measure of independent time and space. Left for long enough to their own devices, these two will quickly remember how rousing and pleasurable it is to spend time with each other.
Even if longer term happiness is arrived at through somewhat greater distance, the relationship in whatever form is capable of providing inspiration and fulfilment long into the future.

Amy Madigan (9/11/1950, Virgo Tiger), Ed Harris (11/28/1950, Sagittarius Tiger) : The two actors have been married since 1983 and have one child. Harris described in 1985: "The acting thing is so intimate and personal that if we’re not working together, it’s real hard to share what we’re doing. I mean we both know what we’re doing, but you can’t really talk about your day very well. When you’re working together, though, there’s so much that is shared, so much unspoken thought and emotion that goes into the work, that it really draws you closer."
Hugh Hefner (4/9/1926, Aries Tiger), Kimberley Conrad (8/6/1962, Leo Tiger) : The magazine publisher and actress/model were married from 1989-2010 and had two children together. According to reports, the two separated in 1998, but Conrad and the children continued for many years to live in the house next door to Hefner, until a dispute over alimony payments.
John Coltrane (9/23/1926, Libra Tiger), Miles Davis (5/26/1926, Gemini Tiger) : The two jazz legends shared one of the most iconic collaborations in history during the late 1950s, including Davis' masterpieces Milestones (1958) and Kind of Blue (1959). It was a complex relationship, with Davis once striking Coltrane for slovenliness caused by drug use. But their mutual respect and influence have been widely acknowledged. Davis once described: "We used to talk a lot about music at rehearsals and on the way to gigs I'd say, 'Trane, here are some chords but don’t play them like they are all the time, you know? Start in the middle sometimes and don’t forget you can play them up in thirds. So that means you got 18, 19 different things to play in two bars.' He would sit there, eyes wide open, soaking up everything."
Tom Cruise (7/3/1962, Cancer Tiger), Penélope Cruz (4/28/1974, Taurus Tiger) : The two actors were romantically involved between around 2001 to 2004. Speaking about the relationship in 2006, Cruz said about Cruise: "Tom is a very good man, and I am close to his whole family, his children. I love his children, and his mum, and all of his family, and he's a great man. The people who have been good to me, they are untouchable, I am very loyal to the people who have meant something to me and have been good to me, very, very loyal."
Anthony Kiedis (11/1/1962, Scorpio Tiger), Flea (10/16/1962, Libra Tiger) : The two musicians and founding members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers have known each other since they were teenagers. Flea described in 2019: "I met him when I was 15 and we both started 10th grade at Fairfax High School and we were almost immediately in love and at war and it's stayed that way ever since. I found someone who I could communicate with in a profound way that I hadn't before and here we are 40 something years later..."
