There may be some hesitancy early on, owing to the typically gradual development of closeness between firstwest and secondwest, but with the cherished pairing of the firsteast and secondeast to help them, these two have the potential to hit the highest of highs.

Western Zodiac
Gemini and Cancer
Compatibility overview
Signs that are next to each other on the Western zodiac wheel are often likened to real-life next door neighbors. Sure, there are similarities, given they occupy similar surrounds. But there is also an instinctual caginess, a sense of needing to protect one's own space. If these two do get to know one another well, however, they may find that their earlier hesitancy was entirely misplaced.

Adjacent signs in the Western zodiac, such as Cancer and Gemini, share a minor Semi-sextile aspect. This is one of only two minor influences (with the Quincunx), which gives this relationship a liberating yet indecisive quality. Hence it may be a challenge—at least in the beginning—for these two to truly relax and be comfortable with each other.
Next-door signs in the Western zodiac (except for Pisces and Aries) share consecutive astrological time-stamps (i.e., the age their sign represents). This can be helpful in understanding why signs such as Cancer and Gemini are often somewhat reticent early in their relationship. Gemini's yearning for freedom and sociability arises in part because their identity is akin to late adolescence. Cancer's contrasting inclination towards interiority and reflection reflects the desire to truly know oneself in the years of early adulthood. Thus these signs not only have less in common than one might imagine, but they can in fact make each other quite uncomfortable, with their pronounced kind of similar-but-different. Early interactions may well be superficial and polite, just like neighbors, but are unlikely to penetrate far below the surface. Gemini may find Cancer somewhat boring and withdrawn, while Cancer can judge Gemini to be flighty and high maintenance. Indeed, the relationship may never progress beyond this initial standoffishness. Gemini's intellectually-oriented element of Air is not usually seen as very compatible with the more emotional Water of Cancer, so for these two to give each other a wide berth is not necessarily surprising.
If they persevere with truly getting to know each other, however, some profound benefits may result for this pair. Gemini's Mutable modality emphasizes consequences and implications, transitional thinking and imagining, which combines perfectly with Cancer's pure, initiating Cardinal energy. After a time, Gemini may come to appreciate how their appetite for ideas can be enriched by Cancer's rich dreamscapes. Cancer may see the variety of Gemini's frequently shifting perspectives and interests as extremely useful in clarifying what is really important to them (and what is not).
Ultimately, though uncertainty and a sluggish start are par for the course, for many Cancer / Gemini combinations, their connection proves a hidden gem of a relationship.

Tommy Chong (5/24/1938, Gemini Tiger), Cheech Marin (7/13/1946, Cancer Dog) : As the duo, "Cheech & Chong", these two comedian/actors enjoyed great success in the 1970s and 1980s, making seven films together and recording eight comedy albums. Cheech has said that their chemistry arose because they were "exactly opposites of each other", and that, "'We were never best friends. We were more like brothers." They had a falling out in the 1980s, reportedly related to creative control and restlessness, but they reconciled in 2008, and have since continued to play shows together. Cheech described: "When we first got back together, there was still a lot of animosity, and it persisted for a while. But eventually it kind of waned. I think when health issues come into play, you do another assessment. [Chong] was sick for a while. He's fine now. But it took awhile to get there."
Kate Magowan (6/1/1975, Gemini Rabbit), John Simm (7/10/1970, Cancer Dog) : The musician/actor and actor have been married since 2004 and have two children. Though they have rarely discussed their relationship publicly, Simms was asked once jokingly if there were any similarities with Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. He replied: "Only in the fact that he worships her, and she is the glue that holds everything together."
Kate Flannery (6/10/1964, Gemini Dragon), Jane Lynch (7/14/1960, Cancer Rat) : Since 2013, the two actors have toured the US performing musical theater together, in the productions, See Jane Sing, A Swingin’ Little Christmas!, and Two Lost Souls. Lynch has described: "We didn’t bond immediately, but we were in the same group of friends so I knew who [Flannery] was, and she was fun, and we’d be at parties together and do shows together. We weren’t fast friends. But we became closer over the years, and then in 2013 we started doing See Jane Sing together, and we’ve become inseparable."
Gene Wilder (6/11/1933, Gemini Rooster), Mel Brooks (6/28/1926, Cancer Tiger) : The two actor/filmmakers famously worked together on the films, The Producers (1967), Blazing Saddles (1974), and Young Frankenstein (1974). In his memoir, All About Me!: My Remarkable Life in Showbusiness (2021), Brooks recalled a disagreement over Wilder's idea to have Frankenstein and his Monster do a song-and-dance routine: "I thought it was a great idea and very funny, but it was too far out...I insisted it was too silly and would tear the continuity of the movie to pieces. Gene disagreed. He said, 'It’s amazing! It’s proof of how incredible Frankenstein’s creation is.' We fought and we fought. Our tempers rose and we almost got into a fistfight over it. Then Gene calmed me down and he said, 'OK. Do me a favor. Film it and we’ll take a look at it. If it doesn’t work, I promise we’ll throw it out.' I have never been so wrong in my life."
Marsha Garces Williams (6/18/1956, Gemini Monkey), Robin Williams (7/21/1951, Cancer Rabbit) : The actor and film producer/philanthropist were married from 1989 to 2010. They had two children together, and shared custody of another child from Williams' previous marriage. Garces had previously worked as a nanny for Williams' family. Williams' co-star in the show, Mork and Mindy (1978-1982), Pam Dawber, described in 1988: "Marsha is Robin’s anchor. She’s reality. Ground zero. She’s very sane, and that’s what he needs. She’s incredibly loving too. And protective. She knows who is bad for him and who is good, and she helps keep the good relationships going." After Williams died in 2014, Garces released a statement, saying: "My heart is split wide open and scattered over the planet with all of you. Please remember the gentle, loving, generous — and yes, brilliant and funny — man that was Robin Williams. My arms are wrapped around our children as we attempt to grapple with celebrating the man we love, while dealing with this immeasurable loss."
Joshua Jackson (6/11/1978, Gemini Horse), Diane Kruger (7/15/1976, Cancer Dragon) : The two actors were together for ten years from 2006. They have both spoken publicly about their unfortunate first date, with Kruger saying, "I thought [Jackson] might say, 'Let's call it a day. I'll bring you home.' And of course not. He talked about himself for an hour and a half. Nonstop. He took me back to my hotel in his car, which was a piece of s**t. Excuse me, but it was. The door was eaten by his dog, it smelled so bad. If you know Josh, you know he was not the tidiest of guys, so trust me, it was not cute. I swear to God, at the end, I was like 'Should I slap him?'" The pair have remained friendly since their break-up—when Kruger won the Best Actress award at Cannes in 2017, Jackson posted: "Having witnessed the integrity and dedication that you bring to every job, I'm over the moon to see you getting the recognition you deserve."
Nicole Kidman (6/20/1967, Gemini Sheep), Tom Cruise (7/3/1962, Cancer Tiger) : The two actors were and remain one of the most famous couples in showbusiness history. They were married from 1990 to 2001, and adopted two children together. Kidman has described: "I was willing to give up everything. I now see that as part of me. I’m willing to do that — I do it when I do a movie too. I’m willing to go, ‘Yeah, bring it on, consume me, intoxicate me.’ I want to feel alive — I want to reel, basically. I was reeling with Tom and I loved it and I would have walked to the end of the earth. That meant giving up a lot of things that were very important to me."

Compatibility overview
Few matches in the Chinese zodiac are so revered as the potentially once-in-a-lifetime connection between the firsteast and secondeast. To be sure, this is not always the easiest match, as the depth of feeling here needs to be prioritized to blossom. But given the right circumstances, this stellar combination can be as conducive to nourishment, stability, and warmth as any under the Sun.

Compatibility according to the Chinese zodiac depends first and foremost on the four Trine Families. As well as the Trine matches themselves, each sign has a cherished Soulmate match, comprised of a member of their kindred family. The Tiger (whose family consists of the Dog and Horse) and Pig (whose family is made up of the Rabbit and Sheep) share such this Soulmate energy.
The key to understanding Soulmate energy is that each sign has a particular sensitivity and admiration for the most authentic qualities of the other. Even across a crowded room, the Pig will often pick up on the majestic impulses of the Tiger, typically at once humanitarian and ambitious. The Tiger is equally apt to notice the Pig's infinite generosity and often underestimated, yet potentially prodigious, intellectual and physical capabilities. There is also a distinctly affirming and protective quality to this heartfelt match. The Tiger may feel as if it is their natural-born responsibility to shield the Pig from their tendencies towards naivety and over-indulgence. The Pig—who usually brings a beautifully selfless quality to most of their relationships—is often perfectly attuned to, and comfortable guarding against, the Tiger's predisposition towards risk-taking or over-committing themselves. Perhaps most important of all is the simple joy that these two can share, delighting in each other's company, and taking greater pleasure in the other's happiness than their own.
Of course, Soulmate energy is no free ride. The connection between the Pig and Tiger tends to demand commitment and respect. Even in professional settings, both parties could wind up bruised, even deeply hurt, if for whatever reason the other sign is unwilling or unable to match their admiration or devotion. Other relationships, with perhaps less abundant potential, may ultimately prove more resistant to competing priorities or disappointment.
However, if these two can carve out the space they need to work closely together, or to explore and care for each other as intimates, the sky really is the limit for this wonderful pairing.

Bernie Taupin (5/22/1950, Gemini Tiger), Elton John (3/25/1947, Aries Pig) : Acclaimed singer/songwriter Elton and lyricist Taupin have shared a 50-year songwriting collaboration that is one of the most successful partnerships of all time. Taupin described in 2019: "When we started it out it was really just me and him...I’d like to think I’ve been someone who can’t be ruffled by the insanity of [Elton's] career—and that I’ve always been there as the soft pillow to fall on in times of need...If we’ve weathered the storm now for over 50 years and have been able to maintain this extraordinary bond with each other, I don’t think there’s anything on god’s green earth that could separate us now."
Stephanie Allynne (9/19/1986, Virgo Tiger), Tig Notaro (3/24/1971, Aries Pig) : Comedian Notaro and actor Allynne married in 2015. They have two children, twins born in 2016. Allynne described in 2015: "I had not dated women before, and I think when we first started spending time with each other, I was so into Tig and I was falling in love with her and I didn't know how to identify it because I thought I was straight. I kept gravitating toward her and wanting to spend time with her, and then in the process of recognizing that in myself, I was like, 'Oh my god, I am fully in love with this person.' It kind of blew my mind in terms of sexual orientation, where you're like, 'I'm this way, and it's black-and-white.' I look back and go, 'God, I closed the door that I had no idea what was behind it.'"
Bill Murray (9/21/1950, Virgo Tiger), Sofia Coppola (5/14/1971, Taurus Pig) : The director and actor have collaborated multiple times, including the films, Lost in Translation (2003)—for which they both received Academy Award nominations—A Very Murray Christmas (2015), and On the Rocks (2020). Speaking about Lost in Translation, Coppola described: "It was about when you have a connection with someone. You never know. When you encounter someone you can instantly be hit by a look or a sense of humor. It was something that’s romantic without a sexual or real relationship. It does not mean he could actually be with you, but you could still have something of that bittersweet aspect. It’s the best way to connect with someone...[Murray's] so smart. He got what that character was looking for. We didn’t talk about it. He showed up and knew the tone of it. He found it as we went. He just got it. I feel a connection with him, in that he understands what I’m trying to do."
John Slattery (8/13/1962, Leo Tiger), Talia Balsam (3/5/1959, Pisces Pig) : The two actors have been married since 1998, and have one child. They played husband and wife, Roger and Mona Sterling, in the series, Mad Men (2007-2015), and also appeared together in the film, Return (2011). Slattery described in 2019, "I just found the right person, you know, I lucked out. I guess marry someone you like. We get along well, we always have, and I guess being in show business, some people say it’s difficult. I don’t know. We understand the rhythms of this life, which aren’t easy sometimes and there’s insecurity. You’re not sure where you’re going to be. So I don’t know. I got lucky."
Emilia Clarke (10/23/1986, Scorpio Tiger), Emma Thompson (4/15/1959, Aries Pig) : The two actors formed a close friendship when they collaborated on the film, Last Christmas (2019), which was co-written by Thompson. Clarke described: "I remember just looking at [Thompson] and being like, 'Just let me know if I mess it up.' She was like, 'What!' Gets me in this huge hug, and is like, 'I’ll do nothing of the sort. You’re going to be fine.' That was the dynamic from there on out. She just supported us in [this] magical way. I hadn’t met her before [the film] but I had been pretty obsessed with her my whole life. When I met her, she exceeded all of my expectations...I’ve had the good fortune of going to visit her and [her husband] Greg’s house in Scotland. They love a good sauna. You jump into their stream, you get freezing cold, and then you jump back in the sauna, and then get back in the stream. It was me, Emma, and Greg in the nude in a sauna, jumping back and forth and shrieking…it was a dream."
Jeff Garlin (6/5/1962, Gemini Tiger), Larry David (7/2/1947, Cancer Pig) : The two comedians have famously become close friends through their collaboration on the show, Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000-present). Garlin described in 2011: "We discovered our connection during the audition process for the initial Curb special, and it felt instantly like we'd worked together our entire lives. I don't know why we have this relationship, but we do. Maybe we were slaves together in an earlier life. And in Curb Your Enthusiasm we were doing what we did and not having a clue whether people would get it or like it. The fact that it's gone on to be a big success, I am shocked. Because it truly was something that was organic, that we did to make ourselves laugh."
Tony Bennett (8/3/1926, Leo Tiger), Amy Winehouse (9/14/1983, Virgo Pig) : The two singers collaborated on the song, "Body and Soul", from Bennett's Grammy-winning album, Duets II (2011). The song was Bennett's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for 45 years, and proved to be Winehouse's last recording. In Bennett's autobiography, Just Getting Started (2016), he wrote: "Should I have told [Winehouse] that I'd contended a little bit with [drugs and alcohol] myself and knew how you can fall into a bad cycle, but I also knew that you could bring yourself back? Would it have made a difference if someone she considered an idol had said to her something like, 'You're my idol. You are a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Please don't take that from the world.' [Maybe I should have said: ] Walk away from it all, if you like. Just live. Please."

Final Words
The semi-Sextile combination of firstwest and secondwest has a reputation for beginning slowly, but even if the early going proves a bit tough, there is great potential for collaboration and tenderness in the longer term. In this relationship, however, arguably the most fortunate element is the gift of the Soulmate connection between firsteast and secondeast. As long as these two have bandwidth in their lives to manage a true kindred spirit, the sky's the limit for these two in any context.
