An interval of two steps around the zodiac wheel, as there is between Aquarius and Aries, forms a Sextile combination. This energy is famously easygoing, providing plenty of space for both signs to be themselves without worrying that they will be judged or constrained.
Aquarius' intellectual nature and desire to seek out universal truths means they are usually fascinated, and greatly inspired, by the vast ambitions and dynamism of Aries. Aries, on the other hand, tends to both admire and be comforted by Aquarius' receptiveness to new ideas and free-thinking approach to life. Aries' impactful nature and child-like sense of wonder can be demanding for many signs, but Aquarius' famous capacity for acceptance means they are rarely disturbed by Aries' intensity. The result is often a relationship full of humor, pleasure, and relaxation.
Aquarius' Air is naturally the most compatible of the four elements, and is especially harmonious with Aries’ Fire. Further, Aries’ Cardinal modality blends beautifully with the Fixed energy of Aquarius, forming a natural sequence from initiation to realization. These two thus tend to respect rather than to feel threatened by each other's contrasting instincts, and may be naturally curious to see how combining forces might harness their prospects for mutual success. Collaborations tend not only to be great fun, but also productive and impactful.
Perhaps ironically, the risks for Sextile matches like this stem from the same features of the relationship that make it most enjoyable. This encouraging, enjoyable atmosphere can sometimes be taken for granted, particularly if other relationships seem more pressing. Sometimes both signs later regret not giving this connection the priority it deserved.
Fortunately, the energy between Aquarius and Aries is usually very reliable. Whether they see each other once a blue moon or every day, these two can be expected to access easily the nourishing warmth and mutual reassurance that characterizes their special connection.

Gregory Peck (4/5/1916, Aries Dragon), Veronique Passani (2/5/1932, Aquarius Sheep) : The Hollywood icon met his second wife when she interviewed him for a French publication. They were married for 48 years until his death in 2003 at age 87. During their marriage, Passani described: "Gregory can be as quiet as a meditating monk. But he can also talk a blue streak. He is very sophisticated; he also is a person of basically simple tastes. He is methodical—and also unregimented...He is conservative about financial matters. But he can spend money with reckless abandon. In other words, he [is] more complex and contradictory than Hollywood shows him." Peck said about their relationship, "When I’m overtaken with myself and think that something’s very heavy to deal with, she will pull off an imitation of me in a dark mood and suddenly I’ll find myself laughing."
Heath Ledger (4/4/1979, Aries Sheep), Heather Graham (1/29/1970, Aquarius Rooster) : The two actors dated in the early 2000s, and Graham continues to reflect fondly on her former love who died tragically young. "Just remembering this time," Graham wrote in 2021. "Heath Ledger was such a special person."
David Tennant (4/18/1971, Aries Pig), Michael Sheen (2/5/1969, Aquarius Monkey) : The two British actors bonded during the making of the show Good Omens, then reunited for the successful lockdown TV series Staged. Discussing their collaboration on Good Omens, Sheen described: "I like the choices that David makes and I think he felt the same way, so there was a similar taste. So, it was a really lovely opportunity. But like I say, even with all of that, you still don't know if there's going to be actual chemistry - we've known each other for a long time so we knew we liked each other, but working together is a different thing...It is quite rare and we were very fortunate."
Matthew Broderick (3/21/1962, Aries Tiger), Nathan Lane (2/3/1956, Aquarius Sheep) : The two actors famously co-starred in the Broadway production, The Producers, which ran for 2,502 performances. They teamed up again on Broadway for It's Only a Play (2014). Asked about their frequent collaborations, Broderick described: "Nathan’s laser-like precision and his atomic-clock timing are exhilarating, and you know that this is a precious rare opportunity to mix it up with a great one. I can’t wait to see what he does in the years to come; I look forward to watching him and even more, taking the field right next to him."
Vince Vaughn (3/28/1970, Aries Dog), Jennifer Aniston (2/11/1969, Aquarius Monkey) : These celebrity A-listers had a short-lived but high-profile relationship in the early 2000s, following Aniston's divorce from Brad Pitt. "I call Vince my defibrillator," Aniston said later. "He literally brought me back to life."
Reese Witherspoon (3/22/1976, Aries Dragon), Kerry Washington (1/31/1977, Aquarius Dragon) : The two actors memorably appeared together in Little Fires Everywhere. Washington described, "[I]t has been exciting for me to do this...To be working with a woman like Reese, who is not afraid to take up space, who's not afraid for the other women around her to take up just as much space and to have a voice as loud as hers."
Amy Wright (4/15/1950, Aries Tiger), Rip Torn (2/6/1931, Aquarius Horse) : The two actors were married for 30 years, from 1989 until his death in 2019, and had two children together. Their relationship was famously unconventional—they had a child together while Torn was married to the actor Geraldine Page (to whom Torn was married until Page's death in 1987), and both collaborated with Page on a series of stage productions. Wright described shortly before their marriage: "[Torn] is a lusty guy. He likes to have a good time, to laugh and drink and eat. He likes women. People think of him as a hot-tempered person, but he is really rather gentle. Our problem is that we come from different generations and different cultures. That makes it hard to communicate sometimes."

The four Trine Families of the Eastern zodiac (like the elements in Western astrology) naturally divide into pairs, with each pair of families sharing harmonious, kindred energy. The Dragon's family (with the Monkey and Rat) shares such a kindred bond with the family of the Snake (with the Ox and Rooster). As a result, even though the Dragon and Snake pairing is often overlooked when it comes to the Eastern zodiac's most ideal matches, they are in fact surrounded by very fortuitous energy.
One of the most obvious indications of compatibility here is likely to be an earnest and deep respect. The magnificent Dragon tends to have a lodestar quality, inspiring and lighting the way ahead for all the signs. Hence the Dragon is likely to find the Snake's wise counsel invaluable for their audacious ventures. The Snake, on the other hand, may be enormously impressed by the Dragon's fortitude and bravado, which they (and many others) are likely to see as complementary to the Snake's own brand of more muted, mystical magnetism. Speaking of magnetism, there is every chance these two will share a profound physical admiration or attraction, for they are two of the most famously visually appealing of all the Eastern signs.
In time, this duo may find there are some limits to the closeness between them. The Dragon, who is famously independent in thought and action, may sometimes tire of the Snake's tendency towards arrogance or jealousy. The Snake may feel that the Dragon is occasionally too distracted by conquering the world to provide the close attention they crave, for beneath their many gifts the Snake can be surprisingly vulnerable. These cautionary notes are one of the reasons why this combination can function especially well in family or professional relationships, or contexts where each party has plenty of space. Irrespective of the situation, however, the Dragon and Snake can expect to find they communicate easily about even difficult topics. Given their excellent foundation of admiration and respect, and bearing in mind the abundant talents they share, the sky is really the limit for this underrated pairing.

Chris Henchy (3/23/1964, Aries Dragon), Brooke Shields (5/31/1965, Gemini Snake) : The actor and screenwriter have been married since 2001 and have two children together. In a 2023 interview, Shields recalled a short break-up prior to their marriage. She described: "I was calling [Henchy] all the time, and he said, 'You broke up with me, this is the way it works. You don't get to call me every day, because you broke up with me. So don't call me every day.' [Smiling] But I want to talk to you...[I thought] I don't want to lose this person, so I better behave...[Henchy is] good at leveling me. Every time I finish with my therapist, Chris is like, 'Are you fixed? You're good? We're good?'"
Ginny Newhart (12/9/1940, Sagittarius Dragon), Bob Newhart (9/5/1929, Virgo Snake) : The comedian and television producer were married from 1963 until Ginnie Newhart died in April 2023. They had four children. In 2022, Bob Newhart described: "The marriages of comedians, no matter how stormy, seem to last a long time, and I attribute it to laughter. No matter how intense the argument you're having, you can find a line, and then you both look at each other and start laughing. It's over, you know? I think that sense of humor is very important to the longevity of a marriage."
Chadwick Boseman (11/29/1976, Sagittarius Dragon), Viola Davis (8/11/1965, Leo Snake) : The two actors co-starred memorably in Boseman's final film, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020). They were both nominated for Academy Awards, and won Screen Actors Guild awards, for their performances. Davis described: "We have a lot of frauds in our business: people coming out of nowhere, having never done anything, and they want to be Meryl Streep in two seconds. This man was an artist, meaning you have to let go of your ego, your vanity; you can’t mistake your presence for the event, that you have to tap into a wellspring of pain, trauma, joy, all of that, and use that as fuel with your work. He was just one of those. You can have a 50-year career and never work with a Chadwick Boseman."
Maya Angelou (4/4/1928, Aries Dragon), Oprah Winfrey (1/29/1954, Aquarius Snake) : The media personality/actor and writer were friends from the 1980s until Angelou died in 2014. Speaking about the unveiling of Angelou's portrait at the Smithsonian shortly before she died, Winfrey described: "[H]ow blessed I am to have had Maya Angelou as a teacher, mother/sister, and friend since my 20s. I have learned more from her than from anyone else. Many of the most important things I know for sure were gleaned from conversations with her...No time with Maya is ever wasted. Whether sitting at her kitchen table and listening to her recite poetry (sometimes her own, but mostly others'—everything from lyrics by Paul Laurence Dunbar to a sonnet by Shakespeare) or watching her speak to an audience of thousands, as she did earlier this year in Texas, I always come away inspired to be more of myself."
Alicia Vikander (10/3/1988, Libra Dragon), Michael Fassbender (4/2/1977, Aries Snake) : The two actors have been in a relationship since 2014. They married in 2017 and have one child. Vikander described in 2018: "Of course he'd done more films than me, but immediately when we started to work together he was so open to wanting me to chip in new ideas and thoughts...He would be like, 'I'm stuck; what should I do?' and I would say, 'You're asking me?' That was such a sweet thing."
Keanu Reeves (9/2/1964, Virgo Dragon), Alex Winter (7/17/1965, Cancer Snake) : The two actors are real-life friends who also shared an iconic on-screen friendship in the films, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989), Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991), and Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020). Interviewed together in 2020, Winter said, "I think of [Reeves] as my brother." Reeves described: "We enjoy each other's company and our thoughts and takes on the world. When we come together, it's like, 'What are you thinking?' 'I don't know, but this is kind of funny.' 'Yeah, that's kind of weird too.' ... I love the characters. I love the world and I love working with Alex. I'm grateful that we had the chance to play again."
Herbie Hancock (4/12/1940, Aries Dragon), Chick Corea (6/12/1941, Gemini Snake) : The two celebrated keyboard players collaborated for decades, including as part of Miles Davis' band on the albums, In a Silent Way(1969), Bitches Brew(1970), and On the Corner (1972). In 1978, they began touring together, leading to the albums, An Evening With Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea: In Concert (1978), and CoreaHancock (1979). They reunited to tour as a duo in 2015. In 2021, Hancock described: "Chick was always playful; there was this kind of joy in his playing, and almost a childlike playfulness, like we’re playing in a sandbox, and it brought joy to me and then I would feed something and it would bring joy to him. We were like two kids. That was so inspiring and encouraging. There was never one hint of competition; it was all inspiration. So I could get inspiration from two [places]: I could get it from myself and from him. And I think he felt the same way."

Final Words
As a Sextile combination, firstwest and secondwest typically share an effortless, joy-filled dynamic, with the only real problem the possibility that they might not take it as seriously as other matches in their lives. For this pair, there is a similarly stress-free combination on the Chinese zodiac side as well, for the firsteast and secondeast share a natural affinity that is highly compatible, even if at times it seems more akin to friendly repartee than star-crossed-lover intensity. Overall, this is a beautiful foundation for any relationship, one with perhaps even greater potential than might appear.
