Aquarius and Capricorn
Compatibility overview
The minor Semi-Sextile aspect, where any two signs occur one after the other, is as curious as any in the Western zodiac. The analogy of “next-door neighbors” is particularly apt. Like neighbors who have chosen to live in almost identical surrounds, it is easy to assume these two must have plenty in common. Yet the reality is far more complicated.

Being next to each other around the Western zodiac wheel, Aquarius and Capricorn share a Semi-Sextile connection. This is one of only two so-called minor influences (with the Quincunx), and from the beginning the subtlety of this energy brings a strange mixture of liberation and uncertainty.
The Aquarian element of Air is often seen as incompatible with the Earth of Capricorn. Where Capricorn prizes concrete accomplishment and material success, Aquarius is far more conceptual, more intellectually oriented. The result for many Aquarius / Capricorn matches is often, just like many real-life neighbors, an initial standoffishness. These two can be instinctively distant, respectful but wary. Ultimately, though, this hesitancy can result in a missed opportunity. The Cardinal modality of Capricorn is highly compatible with the Fixed modality of Aquarius. Also, in contrast to other minor aspects, such as the Quincunx, the sense of difference here can be most obvious early in a relationship.
Successful Aquarius / Capricorn pairings have discovered that, if they are able to progress beyond the initial boundaries between them, their union can prove more rewarding than they would ever have imagined.

Edward Burns (1/29/1968, Aquarius Sheep), Christy Turlington Burns (1/2/1969, Capricorn Monkey) : The actor/director and supermodel married in 2003, and have two children. Christy Turlington wrote in 2011, "From the moment I became pregnant, Eddie supported all of my maternal instincts in pursuing our birth options. He was as involved as I needed him to be and then when our children were infants, he took on as much of the burden as I was willing to relinquish. These were not always harmonious periods of time for us as a couple; let’s face it, as joyous as becoming a parent is, it is challenging for every one of us on some level. But we have come out as great friends and true partners and our kids will hopefully grow up remembering their parents as a team."
Nicolas Cage (1/7/1964, Capricorn Rabbit), Lisa Marie Presley (2/1/1968, Aquarius Monkey) : Academy award-winning actor Cage and singer/songwriter Presley, who were married from 2002 to 2004, were for a time one of the highest-profile celebrity couples in the world. Presley recounted later: "[I]t was one of those things where you're marrying hoping that you're going to either stabilize it or it's going to, you know, accentuate all that was going on prior to what was problematic. So it kind of did the latter, that's all."
Philip Glass (1/31/1937, Aquarius Rat), David Bowie (1/8/1947, Capricorn Dog) : The celebrated contemporary classical composer Glass wrote two symphonies based on the Low (1977) and Heroes (1977) albums by his friend, the rock superstar Bowie. Glass described, "We lived close to each other in New York. There were periods when we saw each other a lot and other periods when we didn’t – I never knew exactly where he was or where he was going to be and sometimes we didn’t see each other for years, but we were always in touch and talked about how things were going . He was an extremely gifted and interesting person and musician. We had both a friendship and a working relationship."
Neil Diamond (1/24/1941, Aquarius Dragon), Elvis Presley (1/8/1935, Capricorn Dog) : Singer Neil Diamond's classic hit, "Sweet Caroline" (1969) became a mainstay of Presley's live performances during the 1970s. Recalling a time he declined an invitation to join the King on stage, Diamond explained: "You know I thought about it over the years, what would I do, what songs would we do, and it's not a good idea to come up and sing with another performer when it's their show and it's their band, I do know that. And I'm glad I didn't because I don't think it would have been a good idea to touch that, you know, the hem of the god. He was amazing. He was warm and very generous to me, and I think it's best left at that."
Carla Bruni (12/23/1967, Capricorn Sheep), Nicolas Sarkozy (1/28/1955, Aquarius Sheep) : The former President of France (2007-2012) and former supermodel married during his presidency in 2008. They have one child. In 2020, Bruni attributed the success of the relationship to: "[Equality and balance from the beginning, and]...good timing. Twenty years ago, [Sarkozy] would have needed a woman who was more devoted to him. And I would never have taken a man who has such a strong, dominating temper. But we met when we were strong enough for each other."
Mary Steenburgen (2/8/1953, Aquarius Dragon), Ted Danson (12/29/1947, Capricorn Pig) : The two accomplished actors have been married since 1995. They had both been previously married and divorced when they co-starred in the film, Pontiac Moon (1994). Recounting a scene where they canoed together, Danson explained: "We paddled in sync...We went out as friends and by the time we came back, we were in love... Ironic how life works in those moments. Once you throw up your arms and surrender, a lot of times things come your way."

Compatibility overview
The combination of firsteast and secondeast is not always top of the list when it comes to theoretical compatibility, but in fact this match has some terrific potential. These signs are very different in some key respects, so at times tensions may prove inevitable. Yet there is also plenty of common ground and mutual admiration, which provide ample scope for a close and enriching connection.

Traditional Chinese astrology is often polarized between very strong or very challenging energy matches. The pairing of Monkey and Sheep, however, exists in the more flexible middle ground. Hence there is plenty of scope for these two to build a strong rapport from the very beginning.
Creativity is especially favoured here. After all, the Monkey is the virtuoso genius of the Chinese zodiac, while the Sheep is a conceptual thinker par excellence. Both of these souls are known for their vivacious senses of humour, so an inspiring flow of brilliant ideas accompanied by bursts of wit and hilarity is very much on the cards. Over time, these two are also capable of providing each other with profound emotional support. Behind the Monkey's high-octane personality, they can experience periods of quite intense loneliness and disillusion. The Sheep's instinctive generosity and great sensitivity make them an ideal source of reassurance and counsel. The Sheep, on the other hand, is susceptible to emotional disturbance and can be somewhat easily knocked off course. The Monkey, who possesses infinite curiosity and is a master problem-solver, can offer invaluable strategic advice to the anxiety-prone Sheep.
It is true that the Trine Families of each of these signs (like the elements in Western astrology)—which for the the Monkey includes the Dragon and Rat, and for the Sheep the Pig and Rabbit—are not especially harmonious. Indeed, there are some risky matches in this group (such as the Monkey and Pig, or the Sheep and Rat). Some of these surrounding tensions may affect the Monkey and Sheep. The Monkey's relentless energy may at times overpower or unsettle the peace-loving Sheep, for example, making the Sheep yearn for periods of calm. The Sheep's fretful nature could at times seem unnecessary or exaggerated in the eyes of the Monkey, and the Monkey may be frustrated by the suffering Sheep. Fortunately, the affinities between these signs are likely to be strong enough to repel the cross-currents.
While they will likely need space from each other from time to time, and there may be periods of instability, there is every chance these two will forge a meaningful and lasting bond.

William Shatner (3/22/1931, Aries Sheep), Nichelle Nichols (12/28/1932, Capricorn Monkey) : The two actors collaborated for many years, playing Captain Kirk and Nyota Uhura in the original Stark Trek TV show and films. They famously shared one of the first interracial kisses on US network television. Nichols' autobiography, Beyond Uhura (1994), describes Shatner as "incredibly charming", but also "bossing around and intimidating." In a noteworthy passage, she wrote: "While working on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, I discovered something about Bill Shatner. He was a wonderful director to work for. Supportive, encouraging, inspiring—Bill turned out to be among the finest, most respectful directors I’ve ever worked with...I realized that what drove all of us crazy about him when he was acting was that he was directing. For whatever reason, Bill needs to control the action and be the center of attention...His authority in the director’s chair secure and unquestioned, Bill joined the team, however briefly."
Christopher Walken (3/31/1943, Aries Sheep), Georgianne Walken (2/8/1944, Aquarius Monkey) : The actor and casting director have been married since 1969. Georgianne Walken has described: "It’s very interesting being married to a man who is constantly playing a different person...You’re always living with a different person. He never tells me what part he’s playing when he’s getting ready. It just descends on me one day. [It’s] very interesting."
Nicole Kidman (6/20/1967, Gemini Sheep), Naomi Watts (9/28/1968, Libra Monkey) : The two actors, who both spent time growing up in Australia, formed a strong bond when they starred together in the film, Flirting (1991). Presenting Kidman the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film in 2015, Watts said, "Back in the day, you fueled me with hope and encouragement. You kept saying, ‘Nai, one thing, one thing. That’s all it takes. It will change everything.’ And it’s only later that I realized the true power of that statement...[Kidman] took me under her wing and she made me her sister. Her smaller sister. Nicole epitomizes for me the word sisterhood. She’s absolutely a woman’s woman. She’s highly spirited, has an infectious laugh, and always up for a good time. And when I say a good time, I mean a good time...The sisterhood needs many more friends like you, and the world needs many more people like you."
Keith Richards (12/18/1943, Sagittarius Sheep), Patti Hansen (3/17/1956, Pisces Monkey) : The legendary guitarist/founding member of The Rolling Stones and model/actress have been married since 1983. Richards has said, "When Patti and I met it was just . . . boom. There was life before Patti and life after. We just clicked, and she rescued me from, shall we say, dark periods . . . without going into too much detail."
George Harrison (2/25/1943, Pisces Sheep), Ravi Shankar (4/7/1920, Aries Monkey) : The two musicians famously collaborated from the late 1960s, after the sitar virtuoso Shankar agreed to give lessons on the instrument to Harrison. In 1997, Harrison edited and wrote the foreword for Shankar's memoir, Raga Mala (1997). Shankar described in the book: "I felt strongly that there was a beautiful soul in [Harrison], and recognised one quality which I always have valued enormously and which is considered the principal one in our culture—humility. Considering that he was so famous—part of the most popular group in the world ever!—he was nevertheless quite humble, with a childlike quality that he has retained to this day." Harrison wrote: "The moment we started, the feelings I got were of [Shankar's] patience, compassion and humility. The fact that he could do one of his five-hour concerts, but at the same time he could sit down and teach somebody from scratch...And he enjoyed it, he wasn’t grudging at all, and he wasn’t flash about it either."
Heath Ledger (4/4/1979, Aries Sheep), Michelle Williams (9/9/1980, Virgo Monkey) : The two actors co-starred in Brokeback Mountain and were married for three years. Williams has described how she spent the 10 years after Ledger's tragic death in 2008 seeking the "radical acceptance" he provided for her. She explained, "I always say to [their daughter] Matilda, 'Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'"
Bob Woodward (3/26/1943, Aries Sheep), Carl Bernstein (2/14/1944, Aquarius Monkey) : The two investigative journalists became household names after their book, All the President's Men (1974), and the subsequent film with the same name (1976), became synonymous with the exposure of Watergate and the fall of the Nixon US presidency. Bernstein described in 2003: "There are special things only the two of us understand, from the work we did together to the way each of us looks at journalism. There are things we say to each other that we’d never say to anyone else. It was true during the reporting of Watergate, and it’s true now. No, we would not have been friends otherwise. We were not inclined to like each other before, and within weeks we came to develop this incredible respect for each other. Now, it’s a great friendship."

Final Words
The minor semi-Sextile aspect often needs a head start to find its feet, so it may take a while for firstwest and secondwest to progress beyond initial nervousness to the impactful and nourishing bond they are capable of. The influence of the firsteast and secondeast on the Chinese zodiac side will likely both aid and hinder this process, contributing a blend of caring admiration with respectful distance. Given sensitivity and perseverance, however, on balance the synergies here could lead to a bond that grows ever closer over time, yielding impressive impacts and an enjoyable, reliable bond.
