On Sunday night, the 76th Primetime Emmy awards were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, US. Chinese astrology is broadly based on two sets of compatible sign families, and it is no surprise that the Emmy-winning actors mostly share signs favored by this year’s Dragon energy, particularly the Dragon’s kindred signs the Monkey and Rat, and two signs from the Dragon’s closest other family, the Snake and Ox. Nevertheless, astrology can only predict so much, and there were a few interesting surprises!

Beginning with the signs most likely to be blessed with good fortune this year, the recipients of the awards for Lead actor and Lead actress in a drama series respectively were the stars of Shōgun (2024-), Hiroyuki Sanada (10/12/1960, Libra Rat) and Anna Sawai (06/11/1992, Gemini Monkey). Born in the third week of Libra in a Rat year, Sanada’s combined signs bring together the infinite possibilities and careful judiciousness of Cardinal sign Libra with the socially adept, strategic know-how, and brilliant wordplay that is characteristic of the Rat. Famous individuals sharing this energy matrix include Eminem (10/17/1972)—who similarly enjoyed good fortune this month as a performer and awardee at the 2024 VMAsSuperman(1978) actress Margot Kidder (10/17/1948), and acclaimed writers Eugene O’Neill (10/16/1888) and Katherine Mansfield (10/14/1888).

Sawai’s energy, on the other hand, mixes the adventurous, freedom-loving, and changeable energy of Gemini with the endlessly creative, playful genius of the Monkey year. Other celebrities born in the third week of Gemini in a Monkey year include legendary tennis player Venus Williams (06/17/1980), NFL legend Joe Montana (06/11/1956), and acclaimed painter John Constable (11/06/1776). Viewers of the intoxicatingly brooding relationship between Sanada and Sawai’s respective characters in Shōgun will not be surprised to learn that in real life they share a true Golden Nine energy connection

Other Emmy-winners expected to enjoy terrific fortune in this Dragon year include Best supporting actor in a drama series winner Billy Crudup (07/08/1968, Cancer Monkey), whose birthdate blends the Monkey sign he shares with Sawai with the empathic, introspective, and impressionable energy of Cancer. Among famous examples of people born in the second week of Cancer in a Monkey year are many versatile and high-profile actors, such as Tom Hanks (07/09/1956), Eva Green (07/06/1980), and Olivia Munn (07/03/1980), as well as inventive musicians like synthesizer pioneer Joe Zawinul (07/07/1932) and classical composer Gustav Mahler (07/07/1860).

Winners who benefit from less headline-grabbing fortune this year but are still beautifully supported by the prevailing energy currents include the winner of the Supporting actress in a limited or anthology series, Jessica Gunning (01/01/1986, Capricorn Ox), who won for her role in Baby Reindeer (2024). Embodying a double-dose of determination—the power-savvy and patient energy of the first week in Capricorn combined with the infinitely purposeful drive of the Ox—Gunning shares her energy matrix with such impactful individuals as Hollywood Golden Age actress Marlene Dietrich (12/27/1901), multiple Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins (12/31/1937), Jungle Book author Rudyard Kipling (12/30/1865), and for the politically conscious, both Seth Meyers (12/28/1973) and Sean Hannity (12/30/1961).

Similarly unsurprising winners this year are Ebon Moss-Bachrach (03/19/1977, Pisces Snake), winner of Supporting actor in a comedy series for The Bear (2022-), and Richard Gadd (05/11/1989, Taurus Snake), who won Lead actor in a limited or anthology series for Baby Reindeer. Sharing the sensual, philosophical energy of the Snake, Moss-Bachrach is born on the cusp of the Western sign of the dreamer, Pisces with firebrand Aries, while Gadd embodies the steady, physically-oriented and playful Fixed energy of the third week of Taurus. Famous people sharing Moss-Bachrach’s energy matrix include successful filmmaker Xavier Dolan (03/20/1989, Pisces Snake), and actors Jessica Chastain (03/24/1977, Aries Snake) and Bruno Ganz (03/22/1941, Aries Snake). Gadd shares his energy matrix with celebrated actors Pierce Brosnan (05/16/1953), Henry Fonda (05/16/1905) and Melanie Lynskey (05/16/1977), as well as musicians like Trent Reznor (05/17/1965) and Mike Oldfield (05/15/1953).

Actors who triumphed at the Emmys in spite of less auspicious energy this year include Jeremy Allen White (02/19/1991, Pisces Sheep), Jodie Foster (11/19/1962, Scorpio Tiger), Lamorne Morris (08/14/1983, Leo Pig), and Elizabeth Debicki (08/24/1990, Virgo Horse).

A special mention has to go out to Jean Smart (09/13/1951, Virgo Rabbit), whose energy brings together the reflective Earth influence of the third week of Virgo, with its endless willpower to solve problems and plan for the future, with the sensitive artistry of the Rabbit on the Chinese side. The Rabbit faces strong headwinds this year—illustrated in no small part by the experiences of another Virgo Rabbit, Australian breaker Raygun (09/02/1987)—so Jean Smart’s success was in some respects a triumph against the odds. But of course, Smart’s energy matrix is shared with some of the best-loved actors of all time, like Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis (09/18/1975), Academy Award-winner Claudette Colbert (09/13/1903), and Colombo’s Peter Falk (09/16/1927). So the fact she received due reward for her performance, which combines priceless comedy with powerful dramatic impact, is really no surprise at all.
