Western Zodiac Compatibility
Aquarius and Aries
Compatibility overview
Peace and relaxation tend to characterize this enviable combination. The match between firstwest with secondwest is often not as intense as other pairings, which sometimes means it gets less attention than it deserves. In fact, this energy can be a true gift for a relationship, with ample prospects for successful collaboration, pleasure, and devotion.
Aquarius and Aries - Relationship Horoscope
An interval of two steps around the zodiac wheel, as there is between Aquarius and Aries, forms a Sextile combination. This energy is famously easygoing, providing plenty of space for both signs to be themselves without worrying that they will be judged or constrained.
Aquarius' intellectual nature and desire to seek out universal truths means they are usually fascinated, and greatly inspired, by the vast ambitions and dynamism of Aries. Aries, on the other hand, tends to both admire and be comforted by Aquarius' receptiveness to new ideas and free-thinking approach to life. Aries' impactful nature and child-like sense of wonder can be demanding for many signs, but Aquarius' famous capacity for acceptance means they are rarely disturbed by Aries' intensity. The result is often a relationship full of humor, pleasure, and relaxation.
Aquarius' Air is naturally the most compatible of the four elements, and is especially harmonious with Aries’ Fire. Further, Aries’ Cardinal modality blends beautifully with the Fixed energy of Aquarius, forming a natural sequence from initiation to realization. These two thus tend to respect rather than to feel threatened by each other's contrasting instincts, and may be naturally curious to see how combining forces might harness their prospects for mutual success. Collaborations tend not only to be great fun, but also productive and impactful.
Perhaps ironically, the risks for Sextile matches like this stem from the same features of the relationship that make it most enjoyable. This encouraging, enjoyable atmosphere can sometimes be taken for granted, particularly if other relationships seem more pressing. Sometimes both signs later regret not giving this connection the priority it deserved.
Fortunately, the energy between Aquarius and Aries is usually very reliable. Whether they see each other once a blue moon or every day, these two can be expected to access easily the nourishing warmth and mutual reassurance that characterizes their special connection.

Gregory Peck (4/5/1916, Aries Dragon), Veronique Passani (2/5/1932, Aquarius Sheep) : The Hollywood icon met his second wife when she interviewed him for a French publication. They were married for 48 years until his death in 2003 at age 87. During their marriage, Passani described: "Gregory can be as quiet as a meditating monk. But he can also talk a blue streak. He is very sophisticated; he also is a person of basically simple tastes. He is methodical—and also unregimented...He is conservative about financial matters. But he can spend money with reckless abandon. In other words, he [is] more complex and contradictory than Hollywood shows him." Peck said about their relationship, "When I’m overtaken with myself and think that something’s very heavy to deal with, she will pull off an imitation of me in a dark mood and suddenly I’ll find myself laughing."
Heath Ledger (4/4/1979, Aries Sheep), Heather Graham (1/29/1970, Aquarius Rooster) : The two actors dated in the early 2000s, and Graham continues to reflect fondly on her former love who died tragically young. "Just remembering this time," Graham wrote in 2021. "Heath Ledger was such a special person."
David Tennant (4/18/1971, Aries Pig), Michael Sheen (2/5/1969, Aquarius Monkey) : The two British actors bonded during the making of the show Good Omens, then reunited for the successful lockdown TV series Staged. Discussing their collaboration on Good Omens, Sheen described: "I like the choices that David makes and I think he felt the same way, so there was a similar taste. So, it was a really lovely opportunity. But like I say, even with all of that, you still don't know if there's going to be actual chemistry - we've known each other for a long time so we knew we liked each other, but working together is a different thing...It is quite rare and we were very fortunate."
Matthew Broderick (3/21/1962, Aries Tiger), Nathan Lane (2/3/1956, Aquarius Sheep) : The two actors famously co-starred in the Broadway production, The Producers, which ran for 2,502 performances. They teamed up again on Broadway for It's Only a Play (2014). Asked about their frequent collaborations, Broderick described: "Nathan’s laser-like precision and his atomic-clock timing are exhilarating, and you know that this is a precious rare opportunity to mix it up with a great one. I can’t wait to see what he does in the years to come; I look forward to watching him and even more, taking the field right next to him."
Vince Vaughn (3/28/1970, Aries Dog), Jennifer Aniston (2/11/1969, Aquarius Monkey) : These celebrity A-listers had a short-lived but high-profile relationship in the early 2000s, following Aniston's divorce from Brad Pitt. "I call Vince my defibrillator," Aniston said later. "He literally brought me back to life."
Reese Witherspoon (3/22/1976, Aries Dragon), Kerry Washington (1/31/1977, Aquarius Dragon) : The two actors memorably appeared together in Little Fires Everywhere. Washington described, "[I]t has been exciting for me to do this...To be working with a woman like Reese, who is not afraid to take up space, who's not afraid for the other women around her to take up just as much space and to have a voice as loud as hers."
Amy Wright (4/15/1950, Aries Tiger), Rip Torn (2/6/1931, Aquarius Horse) : The two actors were married for 30 years, from 1989 until his death in 2019, and had two children together. Their relationship was famously unconventional—they had a child together while Torn was married to the actor Geraldine Page (to whom Torn was married until Page's death in 1987), and both collaborated with Page on a series of stage productions. Wright described shortly before their marriage: "[Torn] is a lusty guy. He likes to have a good time, to laugh and drink and eat. He likes women. People think of him as a hot-tempered person, but he is really rather gentle. Our problem is that we come from different generations and different cultures. That makes it hard to communicate sometimes."
