The firstwest and secondwest pairing contributes an initial wariness here—nevertheless, there is real potential for a long-term successful and close relationship, if these two can navigate the challenging intensity of the firsteast and secondeast.

Scorpio and Sagittarius
Compatibility overview
Traditionally, next-door signs around the Western zodiac wheel have had quite a difficult reputation. The usual thinking has been that they are similar to real-life neighbors, tending to prefer a nervous distance over a closer connection that could backfire in the future. Often, though, the passage of time can prove a powerful blessing for these two. With patience, this connection could lead to a strong and deeply nourishing bond.

Adjacent Western signs share a Semi-sextile aspect. One of only two minor aspects (with the Quincunx), this energy is known for its gentle influence, which offers at once a sense of freedom, and a somewhat confusing lack of direction.
Early contacts can thus be somewhat standoffish. While Sagittarius and Scorpio are both known for the intensity of their characters, the philosophical bent of Sagittarius is usually far more abstract than the deeply emotional nature of Scorpio. Hence Sagittarius may find Scorpio's brand of passionate sensitivity to be jarring, exhausting, or distracting. Scorpio, on the other hand, may view Sagittarius as quite coldly detached, and be either impatient with or hurt by Sagittarius' impulse to see life in terms that go beyond or do not prioritize human feelings. The respective elements here—the dynamic idealism of Fire for Sagittarius, the profundity of Water for Scorpio—can be notoriously difficult to reconcile. In truth, the result may be a relationship that never progresses much past the entrée.
Given the opportunity to develop, however, these two may realize that their initial hesitation was misplaced. Sagittarius possesses a Mutable modality, which naturally inclines towards consequences, implications, and after-effects. This is a marvelous match for Scorpio's Fixed energy, bringing as it does a powerful determination to achieve real-world results and impacts. Collaborations between these two may start slowly, with both signs beginning from perhaps wildly different starting points, but mutual projects are likely to be highly original and progress happily to completion. Meanwhile, Sagittarius may come to appreciate just how much their ethical frameworks and idealism can benefit from Scorpio's acute sensitivity, while Scorpio can learn to channel their perceptiveness in ways that are more ethical and constructive, and less self-destructive.
A measure of ongoing independence will be invaluable here, and humor may prove especially important in diffusing tensions, as both of these signs can express themselves cruelly if taken too seriously. With care and respect, though, this combination can defy expectations, and become one of the Western zodiac's true hidden gems.

Ciara (10/25/1985, Scorpio Ox), Russell Wilson (11/29/1988, Sagittarius Dragon) : Singer/businesswoman Ciara and NFL quarterback Wilson began dating in 2015, and married in 2016. They have two children together, and Ciara has a child from a previous relationship. Early in their relationship, they reportedly agreed to practice abstinence "until the deal is sealed", with Ciara explaining, "I think both of us look at each other and we’re like – whew! But we take it one day at a time and keep it going with each other, and I’m really enjoying every day that we’re sharing." They are also business partners, with their own production company, and part-ownership of the Seattle Sounders soccer team. In 2021, Wilson posted a birthday message to Ciara, saying, "Perfect in every way. God made you for me. He made you to fit perfectly in my arms. Made you to be the amazing woman and mother you are. God made you to entertain the world with your gift to sing & dance! He gifted you with the ability to Tilt the room.. when you walk in ALL the furniture slides towards you. He gifted you with the ability to smile and bring joy to ALL things! Gifted you with the ability to LOVE."
Katy Perry (10/25/1984, Scorpio Rat), Taylor Swift (12/13/1989, Sagittarius Snake) : For a time, the two high-profile singers shared a seemingly acrimonious feud. Apparently beginning with a disagreement about backing dancers, it has been speculated that the dispute contributed to the songs, "Bad Blood" (2015) by Swift, and "Swish Swish" (2017) by Perry. The two subsequently reconciled, with Perry sending Swift an actual olive branch, and the two appearing together—dressed as a burger and fries respectively—in the clip for Swift's song, "You Need to Calm Down" (2019). Swift described in 2019, "When [Perry and I] saw each other, it was just very clear to both of us that everything was different, that we had grown up, that we had grown past allowing ourselves to be played against each other. It was just really clear that we remembered how much we had in common."
Ethan Hawke (11/6/1970, Scorpio Dog), Julie Delpy (12/21/1969, Sagittarius Rooster) : The two actors collaborated (with director Richard Linklater) on the Before film trilogy: Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), Before Midnight (2013). Delpy and Hawke co-wrote the second and third instalments in the series. Delpy described about a love scene in the third film, "It was like making out with your brother. Ethan and I have a great relationship, we're great collaborators and friends but the romantic things is … not there. I literally had to disconnect my brain. I had to take Julie out of my body for those scenes."
Leonardo DiCaprio (11/11/1974, Scorpio Tiger), Jonah Hill (12/20/1983, Sagittarius Pig) : The two actors became friends when they met on the set of Django Unchained (2012), and have gone on to star memorably in the films, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Don't Look Up (2021). In 2021, Hill described: "Look, I'll just start right out of the gate and say [DiCaprio] is an absolute genius, this young man, this friend of mine. His ability to improvise and take control of a scene and have the narrative be shifted in the most amazing, colourful ways is a sight to witness and something truly remarkable to experience. He's absolutely a genius...[T]here's been no more loyal friend or anything I've ever made in show business."
Cherry Jones (11/21/1956, Scorpio Monkey), Sarah Paulson (12/17/1974, Sagittarius Tiger) : The two actors were a couple from 2004 to 2009. Paulson has described how a spontaneous kiss resulted in her inadvertently coming out at the 2005 Tony Awards, saying, "[Jones] won a Tony Award, I kissed her, and all of a sudden I was outed. I didn't really think about it in that way at the time — I was just doing what one would do when a person they love has just won a big fat acting prize. What am I gonna do, pat her on the back and say 'good job, dude?' It didn't occur to me to do anything but what I did." About their break-up in 2009, Paulson described in 2009, "[We're] great. It’s the happiest break up that's ever been. We grew so much together and now we can send each other off with a kiss and great love."
John Cleese (10/27/1939, Scorpio Rabbit), Connie Booth (12/2/1940, Sagittarius Dragon) : Writer/comedian/actor Cleese and writer/actor/psychotherapist Booth created and starred in the iconic TV show, Fawlty Towers (1974-1979). They were married from 1968 to 1978. Cleese said in 2011, "When Connie and I broke up in 1978, I was very upset for about two years. There was a great deal of love in that relationship, and we've managed to remain good friends."
Jimmy Kimmel (11/13/1967, Scorpio Sheep), Sarah Silverman (12/1/1970, Sagittarius Dog) : The two comedians were famously a couple between 2002 and 2009. Describing their courtship, Silverman said in 2007, "We had known each other for a while, just watching movies and stuff, just being friends. And then one night...Jimmy went in for the first kiss, and both of us — we were probably nose to nose for what seemed like forty minutes before either of us had the guts to just go ahead and kiss. But once we did, we started making out like crazy. It had been festering for a very long time." They have maintained a close friendship since breaking up. Silverman said in 2010, "Sometimes loving each other isn't enough...But I will always love [Kimmel]. Sometimes I think maybe we'll die together in our old age or something," while Kimmel described in 2017, "Sarah and I, we're like brothers...I'll see something in the news and think, Oh, my God. I have to tell Sarah about this."

Compatibility overview
Chinese astrology is well known for severe judgements about potentially unstable energy. The match between firsteast and secondeast is considered one of the most seriously challenging, with a significant likelihood of tension, miscommunication, and outright conflict. There are counterbalancing positives—indeed, these two are capable of prodigious achievements and attracting extraordinary attention. Actually enjoying their time together, however, could require plenty of delicacy and effort.

Diametrically opposed across the Chinese zodiac wheel are six Opposite combinations. One of these is the Monkey and Tiger. This energy is said to be eternally difficult to reconcile.
Not only do these signs have little in common, but they often take great pride in those aspects of their character that are most repellent to their opposing sign. Brilliantly skilled and energetic, the Monkey is a born agitator, a spirited mischief-maker whose brand of extreme creativity emphasizes irreverence, wicked humor, and versatility. The Tiger, on the other hand, is serious-minded and self-reliant, deeply committed to their personal ethics of service and humanitarianism, and resolved to achieve greatness for themselves and their communities. Clashes are almost inevitable.
The Monkey tends to find the Tiger hilariously pompous and overbearing, and will find it difficult to resist any opportunity to poke fun or cut them down to size. Meanwhile, the Tiger may see the Monkey as interminably exhausting, wasting their talents on pointless game-playing or selfish acts of rebellion. This essential incompatibility tends to bring out the weaknesses of both signs. The Monkey can be manipulative or rude, and when confronted may experience profound rejection, disappointment, or isolation. The Tiger, on the other hand, is likely to become increasingly infuriated and rash, often exposing themselves to risks and dangers they would never countenance in a less disturbed state of mind.
Remarkably, all this troubled energy can yield some quite astounding benefits. Just as the separate yin and yang elements combine to form the symbol of a perfect circle, the contrasting personalities of the Monkey and Tiger together form a complete spectrum of energy. The result can be mesmerizing for others, and may compel the two signs to stunning achievements, separately or together. Collaborations, competitions, even feuds between these signs may prove spellbinding for their community, indeed the world at large.
It may be difficult for the two signs themselves to feel unqualified enjoyment about the outcomes of their relationship, such is the threatening nature of their connection. Yet with more harmonious energy on the Western side, or concerted sympathy and understanding, it may be possible to harness the potency of this match at least for a time, and to reap the extraordinary, if demanding, gifts it offers.

Bill Murray (9/21/1950, Virgo Tiger), Harold Ramis (11/21/1944, Scorpio Monkey) : The actor and actor/director collaborated on six classic films that have been called "extreme comedy", including Stripes, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day. After an altercation on the set of Groundhog Day, Landis and Murray did not speak for 21 years, until shortly before Landis' death Murray visited him in 2014. Landis described in 2004: "It’s a huge hole in my life, but there are so many pride issues about reaching out. [Murray] would give you his kidney if you needed it, but he wouldn’t necessarily return your phone calls."
Alec Guinness (4/2/1914, Aries Tiger), George Lucas (5/14/1944, Taurus Monkey) : The actor and director collaborated on the original Star Wars trilogy, with Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi becoming one of the most iconic characters in movie history. Guinness, however, was repeatedly critical of the project. While working on the first film, he described, "[N]ew rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper—and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable." In his memoir, A Positively Final Appearance, Guinness wrote: "A refurbished Star Wars is on somewhere or everywhere. I have no intention of revisiting any galaxy. I shrivel inside each time it is mentioned...[A] sweet-faced boy of twelve told me proudly that he had seen Star Wars over a hundred times...Looking into the boy’s eyes I thought I detected little star-shells of madness beginning to form and I guessed that one day they would explode."
John Derek (8/12/1926, Leo Tiger), Bo Derek (11/20/1956, Scorpio Monkey) : The actor and actor/writer/director were married from 1976 to 1998. Their relationship began when John Derek was married to actor Linda Evans, and Bo Derek was 17 years old—they lived in Germany to avoid prosecution in the US. They collaborated on films including Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981), Bolero (1984) and Ghosts Can't Do It (1989), which received negative reviews—Bo Derek received a Golden Raspberry award for Worst Actress for each of these films. Bo Derek has described: "That still breaks my heart, being part of breaking up a marriage is a horrible thing and I still can’t believe I was a part of it. I’ve said it before, but I’ll never forgive myself...I look back at that time in my life as a terrible mistake...Now, when I look back at the photos of me, I was young — 17 is young...There was no Me Too-ing with John. But yeah, I’m very conflicted about it when I look back on being 17 with a 46-year-old man. As I said, I thought I knew everything. It felt right at the time. I was so in love with him and we ended up together for 25 years. I’m just so grateful he was a good person."
Oliver Lynn (8/27/1926, Virgo Tiger), Loretta Lynn (4/14/1932, Aries Monkey) : The talent agent and country singer were married for 48 years and had six children together—three before she was 17. Their marriage was famously turbulent, inspiring songs by Lynn including "Fist City" and "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)". Lynn's 2002 memoir, Still Woman Enough—referring to her husband by the nickname "Doolittle"—described: "Lots of women have asked me how in the world I stayed with a womanizin’ alcoholic who could get violent like he sometimes did...I got taught that there wasn't no such thing as divorce among decent folks...[but] there’s something else made me stick to Doo. He thought I was something special, more special than anybody else in the world, and never let me forget it."
Julius Erving (2/22/1950, Pisces Tiger), Larry Bird (12/7/1956, Sagittarius Monkey) : The two basketball legends shared a famous rivalry, including an on-court fight in 1984 that resulted in both players being ejected. They also appeared together in the iconic 1980s video game, One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird. Erving was quoted in 2021: "We have some great wars over the years. We'll match up in the playoffs four times between 1980 and 1986, with the winner going on to the finals every season...[W]hen Larry says, as he has, that Michael Jordan was the best player he ever faced, I find it a little disrespectful. We beat them up pretty bad in some playoffs, and they got the better of us in others, but those are the toughest matchups for both of us. I don't think it's fair for Larry to say Michael is the best based on one great playoff game, the 63-point performance in Boston Garden. But then, Larry is always playing mind games, so he's probably still trying to psych out Magic [Johnson] and me."

Final Words
Early in their relationship, the adjacent semi-Sextile signs firstwest and secondwest will often be all too aware of their stark differences, though this energy can in fact prove hugely promising over time. In this case, however, the near-constant combustibility of the firsteast and secondeast Chinese zodiac match provides some serious obstacles. To build and fortify this relationship, these two may need to leverage the attention-grabbing thrust of the Chinese zodiac side for mutual gain, thereby accessing the more dependable solidarity and devotion of their semi-Sextile energy.
