Five steps apart around the Western zodiac wheel, Sagittarius and Taurus share a Quincunx (or inconjunct) aspect. This is said to be a minor influence, one of only two (with the Semi-Sextile), which means the surrounding atmosphere offers both an exciting freedom from constraints, and a sometimes disconcerting lack of direction.

The more confusing side of this combination is amplified by the respective elements. Sagittarius is a Fire sign, typically dynamic, idealistic, and impactful, whereas Earth sign Taurus tends to be far steadier and more consistent in outlook. Sagittarius will often feel as if they need to light a bomb under Taurus before Taurus can be coerced into action. Taurus, meanwhile, may experience a kind of vertigo at the intensity and suddenness of Sagittarius' demands. Sagittarius' natural inclination towards the philosophical usually leads them to prioritize beyond-human concerns and the "big picture", rather than individual feelings and sensitivities. Taurus may be one of the most stubborn of all the signs, but they are deeply caring and invest heavily in the security of their loved ones. Hence Sagittarius may feel as if Taurus is weighed down by emotional responsibility, while Taurus can find Sagittarius lofty, unrealistic, or uncaring.

The beauty of these signs' shared Quincunx energy, however, is that their stark differences frequently do not appear too serious. In fact, the attraction between these opposites can be especially flirtatious, intriguing, and exciting. The practical and productive Fixed energy of Taurus knits beautifully with the more reflective Mutable energy of Sagittarius. Physical attraction may be powerfully strong, but creative and intellectual stimulation is equally likely. Grounded by Taurus' sensibleness and physicality, Sagittarius may find themselves more confident, accessible, and better at taking care of themselves. Sagittarius, meanwhile, can inspire Taurus to get out of a rut, and can tap into Taurus' often-overlooked aesthetic side, provoking Taurus into fulfilling abstract reflection and expression.

Given the differences here, substantial independence, at least from time to time, is more or less essential. Problems must be addressed head-on, too, as Quincunx energy tends to atrophy if tensions are not worked through.
