Traditionally, next-door signs around the Western zodiac wheel have had quite a difficult reputation. The usual thinking has been that they are similar to real-life neighbors, tending to prefer a nervous distance over a closer connection that could backfire in the future. Adjacent Western signs share a Semi-sextile aspect. One of only two minor aspects (with the Quincunx), this energy is known for its gentle influence, which offers at once a sense of freedom, and a somewhat confusing lack of direction.

Early contacts can thus be somewhat standoffish. While Sagittarius and Scorpio are both known for the intensity of their characters, the philosophical bent of Sagittarius is usually far more abstract than the deeply emotional nature of Scorpio. Hence Sagittarius may find Scorpio's brand of passionate sensitivity to be jarring, exhausting, or distracting. Scorpio, on the other hand, may view Sagittarius as quite coldly detached, and be either impatient with or hurt by Sagittarius' impulse to see life in terms that go beyond or do not prioritize human feelings. The respective elements here—the dynamic idealism of Fire for Sagittarius, the profundity of Water for Scorpio—can be notoriously difficult to reconcile. In truth, the result may be a relationship that never progresses much past the entrée.

Given the opportunity to develop, however, these two may realize that their initial hesitation was misplaced. Sagittarius possesses a Mutable modality, which naturally inclines towards consequences, implications, and after-effects. This is a marvelous match for Scorpio's Fixed energy, bringing as it does a powerful determination to achieve real-world results and impacts. Collaborations between these two may start slowly, with both signs beginning from perhaps wildly different starting points, but mutual projects are likely to be highly original and progress happily to completion. Meanwhile, Sagittarius may come to appreciate just how much their ethical frameworks and idealism can benefit from Scorpio's acute sensitivity, while Scorpio can learn to channel their perceptiveness in ways that are more ethical and constructive, and less self-destructive.

A measure of ongoing independence will be invaluable here, and humor may prove especially important in diffusing tensions, as both of these signs can express themselves cruelly if taken too seriously. With care and respect, though, this combination can defy expectations, and become one of the Western zodiac's true hidden gems.

Ciara (10/25/1985, Scorpio Ox), Russell Wilson (11/29/1988, Sagittarius Dragon) : Singer/businesswoman Ciara and NFL quarterback Wilson began dating in 2015, and married in 2016. They have two children together, and Ciara has a child from a previous relationship. Early in their relationship, they reportedly agreed to practice abstinence "until the deal is sealed", with Ciara explaining, "I think both of us look at each other and we’re like – whew! But we take it one day at a time and keep it going with each other, and I’m really enjoying every day that we’re sharing." Apparently beginning with a disagreement about backing dancers, it has been speculated that the dispute contributed to the songs, "Bad Blood" (2015) by Swift, and "Swish Swish" (2017) by Perry. The two subsequently reconciled, with Perry sending Swift an actual olive branch, and the two appearing together—dressed as a burger and fries respectively—in the clip for Swift's song, "You Need to Calm Down" (2019). Swift described in 2019, "When [Perry and I] saw each other, it was just very clear to both of us that everything was different, that we had grown up, that we had grown past allowing ourselves to be played against each other. Ethan Hawke (11/6/1970, Scorpio Dog), Julie Delpy (12/21/1969, Sagittarius Rooster) : The two actors collaborated (with director Richard Linklater) on the Before film trilogy: Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), Before Midnight (2013). Delpy and Hawke co-wrote the second and third instalments in the series. Delpy described about a love scene in the third film, "It was like making out with your brother. Ethan and I have a great relationship, we're great collaborators and friends but the romantic things is … not there. I literally had to disconnect my brain. I had to take Julie out of my body for those scenes."

Leonardo DiCaprio (11/11/1974, Scorpio Tiger), Jonah Hill (12/20/1983, Sagittarius Pig) : The two actors became friends when they met on the set of Django Unchained (2012), and have gone on to star memorably in the films, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Don't Look Up (2021). In 2021, Hill described: "Look, I'll just start right out of the gate and say [DiCaprio] is an absolute genius, this young man, this friend of mine. Cherry Jones (11/21/1956, Scorpio Monkey), Sarah Paulson (12/17/1974, Sagittarius Tiger) : The two actors were a couple from 2004 to 2009. Paulson has described how a spontaneous kiss resulted in her inadvertently coming out at the 2005 Tony Awards, saying, "[Jones] won a Tony Award, I kissed her, and all of a sudden I was outed. I didn't really think about it in that way at the time — I was just doing what one would do when a person they love has just won a big fat acting prize. What am I gonna do, pat her on the back and say 'good job, dude?' It didn't occur to me to do anything but what I did." About their break-up in 2009, Paulson described in 2009, "[We're] great. It’s the happiest break up that's ever been. We grew so much together and now we can send each other off with a kiss and great love."

John Cleese (10/27/1939, Scorpio Rabbit), Connie Booth (12/2/1940, Sagittarius Dragon) : Writer/comedian/actor Cleese and writer/actor/psychotherapist Booth created and starred in the iconic TV show, Fawlty Towers (1974-1979). They were married from 1968 to 1978. Cleese said in 2011, "When Connie and I broke up in 1978, I was very upset for about two years. There was a great deal of love in that relationship, and we've managed to remain good friends."

Jimmy Kimmel (11/13/1967, Scorpio Sheep), Sarah Silverman (12/1/1970, Sagittarius Dog) : The two comedians were famously a couple between 2002 and 2009. Describing their courtship, Silverman said in 2007, "We had known each other for a while, just watching movies and stuff, just being friends. And then one night...Jimmy went in for the first kiss, and both of us — we were probably nose to nose for what seemed like forty minutes before either of us had the guts to just go ahead and kiss. But once we did, we started making out like crazy. It had been festering for a very long time." They have maintained a close friendship since breaking up. Silverman said in 2010, "Sometimes loving each other isn't enough...But I will always love [Kimmel].
