Kidjo described in 2022: "In 1989, I was asked to be [Makeba's] opening act in Paris. During my soundcheck, she walked onstage, and I was frozen. I was shaking from emotion. She said, 'Hello, little girl! You have a nice voice!' After that, every time she would see me, she’d say, 'You’re doing good!' It was a friendship between a daughter and a musical mother. She said, 'Never accept anyone to put you in the category of "world music." All music is in the world. Everything people listen to comes from Africa. Why are we put in the ghetto of "world music?"' She gave me a lot of advice...I want my music to carry her legacy and to sing to her every time I’m onstage."

Carly Simon (6/25/1945, Cancer Rooster), James Taylor (3/12/1948, Pisces Rat) : The two singer/songwriters were married from 1972 to 1983, and had two children. In her memoir, Boys in the Trees (2015), Simon wrote about their early intimacy: "It was the nicest contact I could ever know, could ever have asked for, or ever remember…James was my muse, my Orpheus, my ‘good night, sweet prince,’ my something-in-the-way-he-moves."

Jon Favreau (10/19/1966, Libra Horse), Vince Vaughn (3/28/1970, Aries Dog) : The actor/film-maker are close friends who have shared many notable collaborations, including Swingers (1996), Made (2001), Couples Retreat (2009), and The Break-Up (2006). Swingers, which proved the catalyst for both actors' successes, was written by Favreau as an exaggerated version of the pair's life as best friends and struggling actors. In an interview with one another about The Break-Up, Favreau described: "You dug my sense of humor, and I knew you'd be open to things, you'd be open to them, and I knew that if we were going to improvise together that, you know, it's like two musicians who have played a lot together, our rhythms sort of compliment each other, and so, I didn't have any of the responsibilities to worry about like in Swingers or Made where I was trying to keep a lot of stuff in my head I was able to just come in, and have a lot of fun."

Nelson Mandela (7/18/1918, Cancer Horse), Bill Clinton (8/19/1946, Leo Dog) : The anti-apartheid activist and politician developed a close friendship during their respective presidencies of South Africa and the US. Professor Haroon Bhorat of the University of Cape Town has described: "There’s a very, very rich history and bridge that exists between South Africa and the US. If you wanted the jewel in the crown, so to speak, that would be the Mandela-Clinton relationship."

Laura Silverman (6/10/1966, Gemini Horse), Sarah Silverman (12/1/1970, Sagittarius Dog) : The two sisters are actors who have collaborated extensively. On The Sarah Silverman Program (2007-2010), real-life older sister Laura played Sarah's younger sibling. Eboni Nichols (5/12/1978, Taurus Horse), Queen Latifah (3/18/1970, Pisces Dog) : While actor/musician Latifah is famously shy about her private life, it is widely believed that she is in a relationship with Nichols and that the two adopted a son, Rebel, together in 2019. At the BET Awards in 2021, she closed her acceptance speech: "Eboni, my love. Rebel, my love. Happy Pride!"
