Among the four Trine Families of the Chinese zodiac (like the elements in Western astrology), there are two generally compatible pairs. One such pair comprises the Dog family (with the Tiger and Horse) and the Pig family (with the Rabbit and Sheep). Thus, while the combination of Dog and Pig is not usually singled out as a stellar match, good fortune nevertheless swirls around these two loving, tireless characters.

What usually draws the Dog and Pig together is a bedrock of shared values. Both of these signs are capable of relentless hard work and dedication. The Dog might perhaps be more consistently reliable, but the Pig makes up for any occasional waywardness with incredible determination once they get into gear. The Pig's trusting, generous nature is the stuff of legend, so there is a natural affinity with the Dog's instinctive support of underdog people and causes.

These two will need to look out for sometimes surprising breakdowns in communication. The Pig may find the Dog's anxiety confusing and either respond with insensitivity or remain naively unaware. The Dog may sense that they are not wholly accepted in the relationship and sometimes adopt a secretive or distant attitude. Perhaps for these reasons, this is a relationship that functions especially well in professional settings, or in more intimate relationships that involve plenty of collaborative work.

Bill Clinton (8/19/1946, Leo Dog), Hillary Rodham Clinton (10/26/1947, Scorpio Pig) : The former President and First Lady of the United States are one of the most famous married couples in the world. Hillary Clinton said in 2020: "I’ve always loved Bill, and I always knew he loved me. I’ve always believed in our marriage, our relationship, the parenting of our daughter and our shared life."

Alec Baldwin (4/3/1958, Aries Dog), Hilaria Baldwin (1/6/1984, Capricorn Pig) : The actor and yoga instructor/entrepreneur married in 2012 and have since had six children together. Speaking of their courtship, Baldwin has described: "While she was in no hurry, she was very mature and clear about what she wanted — to be married someday."

Freddie Mercury (9/5/1946, Virgo Dog), Brian May (7/19/1947, Cancer Pig) : The singer and guitarist were founding members of the band Queen, and worked together for over 20 years until Mercury's death in 1991. May has described: "Freddie wasn’t greedy for power. People have this image of him as a diva who insisted on getting his own way, but he was the mediator, the guy who could make sense out of opposite ends of arguments. He was very good at focusing on the important issues."

Will Arnett (5/4/1970, Taurus Dog), Amy Poehler (9/16/1971, Virgo Pig) : The two actor/comedians were married from 2003 to 2016 and had two children together. Speaking in 2022, Arnett said, "It’s been almost 10 years and my kids are so lucky that Amy is their mother and I’m so lucky that we’re such a huge part of each other’s lives, even more so than we were five years ago."

Cher (5/20/1946, Taurus Dog), Sonny Bono (2/16/1935, Aquarius Pig) : The singer/actor and singer/politician were married from 1964 to 1975 and comprised the world-famous pop music duo, Sonny & Cher. Cher explained in 2017, "I was this massive amount of energy with no direction...I knew what I wanted to do, but I never would've gotten there without Sonny."

Fat Joe (8/19/1970, Leo Dog), Big Pun (11/10/1971, Scorpio Pig) : The two rappers formed a lifelong supportive and collaborative friendship after Fat Joe discovered Big Pun in the mid-90s. In 2022, on the 22nd anniversary of Big Pun's death, Fat Joe posted: "22 years later we still celebrate your greatness. My brother we miss you not a day goes by when we don’t think about or tell stories about you. The world got robbed of an incredible beautiful person 22 years ago was the worst day of my life.
