Sir Michael Parkinson, Aries Pig, Dies At Age 88
Sir Michael Parkinson (03/28/1935, Aries Pig) sadly passed away at the age of eighty-eight in August 2023.
"Parky", as he was affectionately nicknamed, was loved by millions in his homeland of Great Britain, where he was arguably the most famous interviewer of his generation. He interviewed over 2,000 guests, during a period of 20 years from the early 1970s. Born under the combined sign of Aries Pig, the legendary journalist and interviewer shares excellent company with other entertainers born under the same combined sign. Known for their ability to capture audience’s attention with their talent, witticism and visionary idealism, other Aries Pig souls include musician Elton John, late-night talk-show legend David Letterman, and comedian Tig Notaro.
Some of Parky’s most well-known interviews were not without some tension. Muhammad Ali (01/17/1942, Capricorn Snake), for example, who appeared on Parkinson's show four times, once told the interviewer aggressively: "You do not have enough wisdom to corner me on television. You are too small mentally to tackle me." Interestingly here, the square energy between the Western zodiac signs of Capricorn and Aries is powerful in both positive and negative ways, attracting confrontational energy and the possibility for conflict, as well as opportunities for growth and mutual support. In Stephen Bates’ obituary published in The Guardian, he reported that, "[T]heir friendship mellowed later and Parkinson said after the boxer’s death that [Ali] was the most amazing man he had ever met."
It is perhaps unsurprising that Parkinson was good friends with the famous broadcaster Sir David Frost Sir David Frost (04/07/1939, Aries Rabbit), with whom he shared the same Western zodiac sign of Aries – known for their passion and ambition, and one of the most magic and harmonious pairings in the Chinese zodiac, the energy match between the Rabbit and Pig. Speaking of one regret he had, of missing out on interviewing Louis Armstrong, Parkinson reportedly said, “[Armstrong was] [t]he one man I really, really wanted to get on the talk show …but eventually my good friend David Frost got the interview. I was so jealous; I could have killed him[!]”
