Celebrated Actor Alan Arkin, Aries Dog, Dies Aged 89
Sad news today that acclaimed actor Alan Arkin (03/26/1934, Aries Dog) has died aged 89. Arkin won an Oscar for his performance in Little Miss Sunshine (2007), and was also nominated for The Russians Are Coming (1967), The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1969), and Argo (2013).
Leading the tributes to Arkin was his co-star in the series, The Kominsky Method (2018-2021), Michael Douglas (09/25/1944, Libra Monkey), with whom Arkin shared one of the very best connections in the Western zodiac. Douglas described, "Today we lost a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry. My experience of working with Alan were some of my most memorable. He will be deeply missed."
Actor John Cusack (06/28/1966, Cancer Horse), whose energy with Arkin would typically be at once argumentative and deeply supportive, shared this affectionate anecdote: "Met Alan on [Bullets over Broadway (1994)] - I had some books with me - he said what you need is a proper satchel. So he grabbed me and we walked around New York he showed me where to get a bag. I got one - now yr all set - We went to lunch and talked about everything under the sun. I was meeting a hero of mine - and he couldn’t have been kinder."
